Yes I have a ccj drips of in 6 months ! I started to build my credit with a high interest rate credit card ! Only use 24 percent of the credit card and the limit will go up in time ! I have been working hard for 5 years now paying off everything x keep it up x good luck

Did you get a current account when you had a CCJ? As in did you apply for one at the time or did you already have one
  • Apart from the CCJ is your credit record clean?

-- no! It was appalling! It still isn't the best with late / missed payments / defaults / payday loans, but it's starting to clean up and by 2024 the last of the bad stuff will be gone; it's an AP marker for a PDL. Everything else is dropping off and will be gone by 2021 aside from the AP marker in 2024.

    Defaults?

    -- yes, several

late payments in the last few years etc

-- in the years before my new sub-prime and normal CC, nothing new since the end of 2016 when I moved and started life over, aside from the AP marker showing until I paid it off.

At the time of applying for a new current bank account?

    -- see above

Further info -- I'm still in historic debt, but these two dropped off my credit file years ago.

What is it you are trying to aim towards? My goal is a mortgage this year, so it's operation clean up debts / credit file / prove I'm responsible.

If you tell us we can suggest what to do!
Mortgage started 2020, aiming to clear 31/12/2029.

thanks for the info - mortgage soon is my aim

Well done for getting a CC and a current account. I am astonished you got one with the history of your debt but well done!

I keep getting rejected for a current account, so strange as apart from the CCJ's my file is OK. Did you apply for other current accounts before natwest accepted you? Or any accounts after Natwest accepted

When my credit report was in tatters (lots of defaults), in the first instance I applied for a Basic account with Santander. Once I had it for about a year (or two), I then successfully applied to upgrade it to a Santander Everyday current account. :)

You just need to be patient xlnc99. Just make sure that you maintain your credit file (no new negative data), and then you will get accepted for a normal current account (and a credit card too). :)

Thanks the problem is i have a few basic accounts and most of them are doormat. So its unlikey i will be upgraded for most of them. I should have not had so many and then made fresh current applications in a year. I would have a better chance

Thanks for your reply. I am sorry to hear about your cancer situation, i hope you are now better.

Did you get the current account with Natwest before or after the defaults were written off? Or did you have the current account before any defaults were on your file

Thanks for your kind words- yes, I have had the all clear.
A lot have dropped off my file now, but there’s 7 left, all of which are due to drop off next year. I opened the NatWest account in February this year. I also have a Barclays student account with £1000 overdraft but I have banked with Barclays for many years- they didn’t credit check me when I switched from a Basic to a full current account and then when I started uni they just switched my account over and gave me the overdraft. I also have a Capital One CC with a £200 limit- I had an Aqua card with £600 limit until recently but I paid that off and closed it in January.
