I needed a current account to pay my benefits into, once a month I'll transfer money over to my monzo for spending and to pay bills

Why not just have it paid into the Monzo account directly?

You mention a council tax bill from earlier this year - that should be fine as it's within 12 months.

Barclays never asked for proof of address? Either you opened your account with them before the latest KYC rules came into play or you were fortunate enough to pass their electronic IDV process as part of an online application.

Lastly, unless Nationwide has processes I'm not aware of, there's no need (or ability) to "activate" your debit card, except in the sense that the contactless feature is only enabled after one successful use of chip and PIN.

Got an email just now and been accepted, no need for id.

OK well then should I dispose of it or just keep it to one side? I don't like the idea of a debit card being associated with my savings. Doesn't feel secure

I don't need it all to be paid into my monzo I. Only need about 3/4 of my benefits each month

I like transferring spending money over each month via standing order, its just my preference

If it's a FlexBasic rather than FlexAccount or FlexDirect then Nationwide may close the account if it's not your sole UK current account.

You may need it, for example if you're ever transferring money as a card payment, or if you need to provide credentials to set up a new internet banking payee.

Surely it would be better to have it paid into Monzo then the rest transferred out to a savings account and earn some interest on it?
