Opening account with Nationwide

Just applied and been accepted for a basic nationwide current account.
They said they will either open the account in the next few days or send a letter requesting ID

I have a valid passport for proof of name however, for proof of address I only have a utility statement and also a tax letter from the council from the beginning of 2019.
I understand the proof of address has to be less than 3 months back which is a real pain because I don't do anything by post these days !

I have requested barclays send me statements from now on so may have to wait for one of them to come through before they accept me ?

Surely the fact they might send a letter here to my address would be proof in itself ?

THanks

Thanks. Yes. I have read this but what are the chances they'll ask for proof of address

Based on everything we know about you, 22.46%. ;)

I think you should just chill and deal with it if and when it happens but I'd say it's more likely than not that they won't require anything further. If you've successfully been checked electronically previously then you'll probably be fine this time.

Even without any form of photo ID it's fairly easy to provide acceptable proof in my experience.

Yeah had monzo and barclays for a year or so.
Will sit back and wait now then thank you :D

Just did a thorough check at requirements and they accept a passport for applications no need for proof of address so should be OK :money:

Got the email I've been accepted now just waiting for the personal information in the post

I won't need the debit card as its for my savings, should I activate it anyway and keep it to one side? I will be using Internet banking

I needed a current account to pay my benefits into, once a month I'll transfer money over to my monzo for spending and to pay bills

Im not interested in loans, interest or overdraft
  • You mention a council tax bill from earlier this year - that should be fine as it's within 12 months.

Barclays never asked for proof of address? Either you opened your account with them before the latest KYC rules came into play or you were fortunate enough to pass their electronic IDV process as part of an online application.

Lastly, unless Nationwide has processes I'm not aware of, there's no need (or ability) to "activate" your debit card, except in the sense that the contactless feature is only enabled after one successful use of chip and PIN.
