Only if the money would otherwise go to the shareholders. I don't believe cash reserves count as shareholder money.

Everything owned by the business including cash reserves is shareholder money. That's what being a shareholder means.

Your ability to believe that shareholder's property doesn't belong to shareholders makes you a perfect Corbynist, but makes a reality-based conversation about the economics of McDonnell's proposal impossible.

You asked why McDonnell's proposal to confiscate shares for the benefit of the Government represents confiscation, and I answered the question. But there is no point if you exist in an alternative economic reality where the Government can seize the shares but the shareholders don't lose them.

McDonnell does not live in this alternative economic reality where you can take money from shareholders and give to the Government but the shareholders don't lose anything. He believes that the shareholders deserve to lose their money because they are shareholders, i.e. capitalist rent-seeking parasites.
Like I said, companies often benefit from these things and a lot of companies already give stock to their staff. You even the far extreme with places like John Lewis which is entirely staff owned.
A company paying staff in stock in return for their labour has literally nothing to do with the Government confiscating shares and giving it to themselves. (Minus an irrelevant pittance to staff, which is absorbed into their remuneration anyway, as they will still demand the same total to get out of bed in the morning.)

Your ability to believe it does makes you a perfect Corbynist.
The previous owner gets market value for them as they are willing to sell them.
No they don't. In your potential mechanism, market value is taken out of their existing shares, used to buy the shares and then that money is handed to the Government.

Your ability to believe you can create market value out of thin air by government decree makes you a perfect Corbynist.

I agree neither outcome is as good as being a member of the EU, but with Labour there is more of a chance we'll all be able to eat. I would probably be ok, but then maybe someone will mug me.
You mean you might be able to eat for a while until the country's bankrupt, we all remember the "there's no cash left in the kitty" of Labour's last efforts - and after that you'd be far more likely to be mugged.

Still better than starving until the country's bankrupt. Don't blame me, I voted for prosperity in the EU.

And we all remember the 1990's conservative sleaze. Are you saying that each government is the same?

Do you consider taxation to be confiscation? That would explain alot.

    I don't recognize that figure https://researchbriefings.parliament.uk/ResearchBriefing/Summary/SN05871

Is that not high enough for you? You want to leave the EU to drive it higher?

Yes, because both the above claims are lies.

Corbyn has done nothing for peace in Gaza or Ulster. He didn't want peace. He wanted Hezbollah and the IRA to win.

Who do you think Thatcher sent to start the 'behind the scenes talks' ?

Boris said ""I think that it's odd that both Jeremy Corbyn and the SNP claim to be attached to democracy when their mission is to smash up the oldest and most successful political partnership in history, in the form of the Union,"

Smashing up Unions means you're anti democratic. Thanks Boris for clarifying that.:T:T:T

This doesn't bode well for Boris negotiation strategy

The Prime Minister joined in with an auction during a visit to Peterhead Fish Market to meet people in the fishing and farming industries.
Mr Johnson, accompanied by the Scottish Secretary Alister Jack, was shown around the market and joined in with bidding for fish, winning an auction for a box of cod with a £185 bid.

Asked whether it was a good price, Simon Berbner - the chief executive of the Peterhead Fish Market, said: "If you're selling, it's a great price.

"If you're buying, maybe it's a little high.

"It depends on supply and demand, but on Fridays you get good prices."

Although he won the overpriced fish, placing his ticket in the ice-filled box, Mr Johnson left the market without his purchase and aides were unable to confirm what would happen to the box.

I'm sure you have been stocking up on baked beans, I'm not worried for you.
I think there is a case for stocking up on long life non perishing goods.

If not shortages then prices are sure to go up.

There is a possibility of financial collapse and just in time inventory not making it in time.....

UK terrorists stole their country, the IRA wanted it back. Finding a way that both sides can win sounds a good idea to me.

UK terrorists also caused a similar problem in Israel.

Shall we hand back to Africa all the money we made from the slave trade as well?
