Hi,
Long story short made a card payment when someone came to my house for some work done. Work was incomplete and it seems the company is a sham judging by reviews. After speaking to them it seems they are delaying and coming up with excuses.
Is there a way i can get a chargeback or refund if i contact my bank as this was not a credit card but a debit card payment

I haven't got a clue whether you can get a chargeback or refund. But I believe that if you are going down that road, then you will need to pay an independent contractor to survey the work done and make a report as to whether it was up to an acceptable level.I work within the voluntary sector, supporting vulnerable people to rebuild their lives.

It seems like really good protection, i will be using card payments for work in the future instead of bank transfer or cash0 -

Shock horror - something you didn’t know to be true :rotfl:
And where did “cashback” come from?0 -

Overpriced is not a chargeback right. Unless you have a fixed price in writing, but they could argue a increase due to extra work involved. Hence why often it is only a "Quote" and not a fixed price.
Goods not received is a chargeback right, but you are going to have to have a breakdown of the items/value of. And will only be able to get that amount back.
Services not provided is a chargeback right, but you are going to again prove they did not provide them and have a breakdown of the costs involved.Life in the slow lane0 -
You're not buying the goods yourself (I believe) but you are paying a supplier to do a job. He buys the bits and then fits them. If he doesn't supply the service as contracted, you have a right to dispute it with him. If that gets you nowhere, your card company may consider making a Chargeback for you for the value of the services not received. Can you properly demonstrate where the supplier has failed to meet the contract and properly quantify the value of those things not provided? If you have a 'quote', the builder is (I believe) obliged to honour that quote - unless you start adding extra work to the contract. If you have an 'estimate' the amount you end up paying can be different.
I think you will struggle to get a Chargeback done if the heating system has been put in. You will probably be viewed as just not happy with the standard of work and the quality of parts. You may have to explore other avenues such as legal action against the supplier.
No harm in contacting your card company but you will have to attempt to resolve the matter with the supplier first. In future use a credit card - if you have one.0 -
I will be try to be as clear as possible. Heating system went of the boil, so called someone off google. My own fault due to the emergency went to the 24/7 and literally rang first company. Only after i realised it was a dodgy company.
Guy came round, negotiated a price but then kept increasing it as he did the job. Absoloute poor service but a few parts werent with him so he did what he could with what he had. He fixed it for use but i paid him for the parts he was going to order in the invoice.
Here is where i got done. He was very clever in the invoice because he wrote the parts being cheaper then what he told me on the invoice and thus charged more for the work he had already done. The reason he did this was because he not no intention of getting the parts. So when it came to a refund they were only refunding me for the parts and now are backtracking on the price we agreed for the whole job because its clearly written on the invoice. I havent got a leg to stand on, my own fault for signing the invoice without reading it. Ile accept responsbility there.
Calls me up a few days later saying the parts not in stock, i will refund you. Complete nonsense, ive phoned five companies and they all have it in stock.
The refund still not done, they said at least 14 working days, never heard of that before for a refund. That is 18 days in total before i may or may not get it.
Question is i can do a chargeback on the goods that were not delivered but can i do anything else for the service or the price agreed and changed. On paper i havent got a leg to stand on because the company will just show the invoice to the bank i guess
Tried to speak to the company and they are not budging saying the invoice says this etc etc0
