When do I have to inform insurer about motoring offence?

I got pulled by a copper for speeding in April and have just got the fine through. I've paid the fine and will have 3 points on my licence, an SP30.
I've heard different things regarding informing them now vs. informing them at renewal. I am assuming I need to inform them now.
Do I need to inform them right now or can I at least wait for my licence to come back with points
on it? Cant really afford to pay any extreme charges this week.

Thanks

I've been reading through and I can't find anything that states about updating them after the policy has begun. There are things it mentions like "if this information is not correct please contact us". But that's as of the start of the policy.

Why not call them and ask?

Because then they'll shaft me for a charge. Not gonna make them aware I have points if I don't need to

Read the policy terms several times and I can't see any indication of having to notify them if anything changes after the start of the policy. Which seems odd to me.

    1. Which insurer is it?

    2. I'd be very surprised if there's a charge now. If you only have 3 points, it may not even affect your renewal.

Then that's your answer, assuming you're reading the full Ts & Cs. If it doesn't say you have to, then you don't have to.

I have read them, it just seems odd. Does it sound odd or normal?

    Sounds fairly normal.

Two seconds looking on their site:
I got a speeding ticket. How much will it affect my car insurance premium? - This depends on how many motoring convictions you have on your driving licence, and who your Insurance Company is. Many Insurers that we deal with will allow two fixed penalty speeding convictions to be on your licence without increasing your premium. You should notify us as soon as you receive a conviction.

    also:
When do I need to notify you of a change to my details? - We should be notified of all amendments that would affect your policy. If you are in doubt, it is best to notify us anyway, as a claim could be affected if any of your information is incorrect. For example, if you obtain a motoring conviction we should always be advised as soon as possible.
