Dog injured at holiday cottage...what to do

Any advice would be much appreciated.
Correction.
Any advice that agrees with my opinion will be appreciated.0 -
Dog injury and subsequent vet's bills: covered by your pet insurance, so no quantifiable loss
Not necessarily. I imagine there will be an excess on the policy so a loss of around £75 - £100 I imagine depending on provider etc.
That said, my dog wouldn't have been loose until I'd checked every inch of the property.0 -
Sheramber...and? I don't have to agree. I'd be a fool to in many ways as I would lose out for my dog (and I just love all the sympathy that has been shown here for him!). I just forgot how some people could be on this forum. Do you do this all day? So many posts. Wow. How about getting a real job?
Takmon, I think we might be going round in circles on that point. If they have to make a safety measure during a second risk assessment, that demonstrates that they were negligent in the first as it was foreseeable and therefore, this could be used against them. Ensuring an accident doesn't happen again obviously means it shouldn't have occurred in the first place.
The drop isn't hidden, we just didn't go to that part of the garden, as the garden is very big and we weren't there all the time. The agency simply didn't do the risk assessment properly. Which they have basically already admitted to.0 -
The fact that they are doing something about this area after just this one incident shows that they take things seriously, which also shows that the area can't be as dangerous as you are making out or there would have been previous incidents and the area would have been changed previously.
Your dog, your responsibility to asses your dogs needs and any areas you will be letting them out. You say you checked the area before letting your dog out but you also failed to notice that the area was dangerous so it can't be that obvious or that dangerous.
So back to your original complaints:
The microwave, a complete non issue
The location, either is is out of the way way or it isn't, it can't be both. You looked it up online and were happy with the location. Unless when you arrived it was in a completely different location then this is also a non issue.
The window cleaner, another non issue. If you choose to walk around with blinds/curtains open while half naked then that is on you. Same if you had chosen to have sex. If you don't want to be seen through a window then you close the blinds or curtains, it's that simple. Being a holiday let you have no idea what permissions there are around other people accessing the property. For all you knew there could have been a right of way in front of the patio doors you were walking around half naked behind.
You say there are other complaints but if they are all as trivial as the ones mentioned (and most people post the most serious ones rather than the minor ones) then you really don't have much of a case if any. None of this was serious enough to make you leave so it couldn't have been that bad. I don't see how you are due any refund but they have chosen to give you £30 which is generous of them.0 -

How about not being so rude to people?
Sheramber has been here since 2014. Their post count averages out at just over 3 posts a day.0 -
Fosterdog...no, it is a new property. Thats why nothing has happened before. Just come onto the agency books. So indeed the area is dangerous.
No, I said I hadn't been to that area of the garden. We didn't spend all our time there at the property. It is a very large garden.
Microwave...said it was there, wasn't there. So if it was a swimming pool, that to you would be a non issue to? I doubt it somehow.
Says it was hidden away and private...was not, because people used the road outside a lot. We weren't to know that. And again, you are wrong, just because somewhere is rural, doesn't mean it is quiet.
Umm, eh? with regards to the window cleaner? The agency have already said this was out of order what he did. The cottage is actually on its own grounds, there isn't another house nearby or anything. You just would never expect someone to suddenly appeared at the large windows! And of course there wasn't a right of way. That's quite funny ;-)
£30 is not generous! Really? So if it was your dog or kid and they got injured, you'd be happy with that? Doubt it very much.0 -
Pulliptears, because Sheramber was rude to me? 3 posts a day? Why? Wow. Who has the time to do that? Oh and you too. Why don't you have a real job rather than upsetting people on here? Or does it make you feel good to do exactly that? Time to leave. Do continue with your comments if you feel the absurd need to and have all that time to do so.0

I think the OP would have a small to fair chance of getting more compensation, but only if they have a good lawyer and get expert witness reports from the vet who examined the dog and also a surveyor who will have to visit the cottage and take measurements and photographs of the abrupt change in level. But if you lose you will have paid out quite a bit of money for nothing and you will not get your £300

Well seemingly you do given you've posted to this thread 9 times today :rotfl:0 -
In this thread:

You can’t honestly expect a forum to reduce the guilt of being an inattentive owner can you?
Focus on getting your dog well and learning from your mistakes.
