Yes I've received it today......... However I have double checked payment was received to my Lloyds account on 25th September. So HMRC is very misleading at http://www.hmrc.gov.uk/childbenefit/update-faqs.htm where it says:

Is data about me and my family involved in this incident?

Only people who were receiving Child Benefit on 30 September 2007 are affected.

Anyone think of an explanation for this statement??

I took it to mean that 'only' people with a current CB claim as at 30 September 2007 were affected.

So, if your only child was born in October, or your youngest 'grew out' of the system in September, you'd be in the clear ...

Which only leaves the vast, vast majority of claimants, doesn't it? :rotfl:

I believe your answer to the following question is right, but could easily be misunderstood by readers, as the devil is in the detail.

    Q. What if I think my ID has been stolen?

If you've noticed unusual account activity and genuinely suspect someone is using your identity to apply for new products, then contact Fraud Prevention Service CIFAS, and ask them to put a 'Protective Registration' on your credit reference file. This costs £11.75 and will alert all lenders who see it to carry out further checks before approving credit applications.

However, don't use this lightly. Getting Protective Registration on your files will slow up any credit searches, and possibly mean you don't get approved for things you need, from credit cards to mobile phone contracts

CIFAS Protective Registration is only applicable to CIFAS members. This means that it is only CIFAS members who will be alerted to the Protective Registration Flag. NOT ALL Consumer Credit Licensees are CIFAS members therefore those using Protective Registration are far from fully covered.

I’d like you to look at the system described at www.freeidprotection.co.uk to assure readers that unlike Protective Registration this system does reach ALL Consumer Credit License holders viewing your credit files.

Personally, I'm not too worried about my bank account, the banks are aware and I check my account regularly, etc.

I'm much more worried about the identity theft from my children whose details the discs contain. I know the details have to fall into criminal hands for that to happen, but with all the publicity if the discs are found, they now have a 'value' to them and may not be handed back.

This could affect our children for decades to come as all the usual security details about them were on the discs; ie, name, address, dob, mother's maiden name.
