Hospital PCN Gemini - parked in staff parking

Hi all.

Apologies if this has been asked before, I am very new to the forum.

My partner took me to Whipps Cross Hospital for an appointment at the fracture clinic a few days ago. There were no parking spaces at all. We were driving around the car parks for a good 45mins-1hr and it was coming up to my appointment time.

I am on crutches as I have fractured my tibia so we needed to park or I would miss my appointment. We finally saw a space so we parked and paid using the Ringo App - there was a sign on the wall near the car park entrance with the car park location number on it so I thought we were fine to be parked there.

Today we received a PCN from Gemini Parking Solutions asking for £30 within 14 days or £60 after that. Apparently we were in the staff parking area, so the letter says we broke the following condition: No Permit.

The pictures appear to have been taken by a person on foot using a hand held camera as they have taken a picture of the front of the car and a picture of the dashboard through the windscreen.

I am aware we shouldn't have parked in the staff area but we genuinely weren't aware that it was the staff car park, as we did pay the parking fee and thought that it was the regular car park. Is there any way we can appeal this?

Yes, two ways. First go and find in the hospital the PALS desk and complain (politely) forcefully requiring the PCN to be cancelled. If they witter about it, point out to them the NHS guidelines for parking. Research it HERE and take a short extract with you. If that fails, go to the NEWBIE sticky on this forum post # 1 and use the standard template in blue and send that with no additions, deletions or modifications. Send it to the PPC as KEEPER.
  • I will try the PALS route today, although I am unable to physically get to them they have a contact number and email so I will try that first. Thank you for your advice, much appreciated.
