How long does a pending debit card "authorisation" remain before it drops off

Does anyone know how long a Visa debit card pending authorisation remains pending before it drops off?
A company has authorised an amount to card in error and I called them and they advised that the authorisation will eventually just drop off and will never actually be debited from my account. However, the authorisation has reduced my available balance.
Anyone know how long it takes to "drop off"? I think I heard 7 working days?
It's Halifax Bank, if that makes any difference.
Thanks in advance.

That doesn't sound right. It seems more likely there is a standard amount of time that an authorisation can remain pending.0 -

Nope - could be 7 days, 10 days, 28 days, 120 days...
There is no "standard"0 -
There normally is Dex, depends on the bank though. It’s normally 7 days in my experience

Thank you.
Agreed -- it seems very unlikely a bank would allow an authorisation hold to just remain on the card for 120 days.0 -
I think the most would be about 30 days but unlikely. Mine normally drop off after 70

Yet again you prove yourself to be someone who just likes to be awkward for awkward sake, rather then trying to be helpful you just like to try and be a smart !!!!!0
