Netflix Consumer Rights Question

Options
To cut a long story short, I accidentally signed up for a paid subscription with Netflix this morning. Cancelled it immediately but they’ve charged me anyway.

Under the Consumer Contracts Regulations I believe I have the right to a refund as I’ve cancelled within 14 days and not used the service. However I can’t get hold of customer support to request this (phone & webchat both down).

Has anyone else had a similar experience and how did you get on with it?

How have you managed to do that? Netflix offer a 30 day free trial from the off and they shouldn't charge you anything until that point passes.

How exactly do you 'accidentally sign up for a paid subscription with Netflix'?

Presumably by thinking (wrongly) that there's a 14 day cancellation option :rotfl:

Would you explain why you think the OP's assumption is wrong?

From https://www.moneysavingexpert.com/shopping/consumer-rights-refunds-exchange/#services (regarding the Consumer Contracts Regulations 2013):
    3. How long do I have to cancel?

Here it depends what you're buying:
    • Goods: <SNIPPED>
    • Services and digital content: 14 days from the day after the order is made. If you want to start a service within the 14 days, you will usually be asked to give your agreement in writing. This then means you can't cancel. However you are able to get a refund minus the proportionate cost of anything you have used.
If you aren't told about your cancellation rights in writing, you have up to a year and 14 days to cancel the contract.
