The extra £75 over the £25 for a 256GB SSD, it upsets the display price. Personally I'd pay the extra £75 every day of the week.
There isn't half some nonsense on this thread about 1TB SSD s being too expensive. You get 4 times the capacity for 4 times the price over a 256GB.0 -
When I replaced my HDD with an SSD I installed a 500GB SSD. I then moved the 500GB HDD to the DVD bay (laptop) as a backup drive and that's where I keep most of my data (Photos, videos, music, etc.). I then also have a 1TB USB HDD to which I make further backups (as well as using Cloud storage for backups).0

The SSD will be much quicker, so I would recommend that.
We don't know if the space will be enough as we don't know what you are using the laptop for. If you are just browsing the web, watching Youtube, doing some word editing - 256GB is plenty of space. If you are doing lots of video editing with raw footage, it won't be enough space (but you could always just get an external drive)0 -

Nothing. But it would push the prices up.
Mechanical drives are still significantly cheaper than SSDs for the capacity offered. Computer manufacturers will buy computer components in bulk and because SSD prices at the top capacity end are falling all the time, they won't want to be stuck with a load of drives they paid £150 each for when it'll be cheaper to buy them in smaller batches at the next lower price point.
As I said in the Mac thread further down, these SSD prices have literally tumbled over the last few years, two or three years ago £500 wasn't uncommon for a 1Tb SSD. Now you can get them for £100 or less.0 -

I may be misremembering, as it was a while back, but I I want to say that the first SSD I purchased was 120GB for around £100-£150.0 -
My old Lenovo had a hybrid drive but I replaced it with an SSD and the performance improved dramatically.
Just bite the bullet with the cost of the larger SSD and go for it. You won't regret it.0 -
Apologies if this is a stupid question, but if I buy a laptop with 256gb SSD and find it's not enough, is is easy enough to just change to more gb?
I don't game or store videos on the laptop, photos are on laptop and backed up on portable hard drive.Loved our trip to the West Coast USA. Death Valley is the place to go!0 -

Why don't you name or link to the laptop in the first place? Instead of this guessing game.0 -

Depends on the laptop, but the majority of them use the smaller M2 drives that may or may not be soldered into place - while this is relatively faster than a 2.5" SSD it can be more expensive to upgrade if it can be replaced. You may be hard pushed to find a laptop with a 2.5" SSD in it.0 -
