Hi I applied for a mortgage last year through a gentleman who was recommended by a friend. I gave all the documents as he requested and after 3 weeks I was told my mortgage was declined. In June 2019 I applied for a mortgage again but this time I went to a registered mortgage broker. I gave him all the documents and again I was refused even tho my income was good my credit score was excellent. He was surprised himself and asked me to write to the National Hunter to see what they hold about me (this was the first time I ever heard about them).
Anyway 2/3 weeks later I received some paperwork from The National Hunter and after reading through I realised they had put a mark on my name due to the previous guy sending in altered documents to the bank to get me a mortgage. I was not aware of this nor did I even once speak to the bank regards the mortgage application. What would I need to do to get them to remove the marker off my name..?

The obvious inference from this is that the first one wasn't registered, which, while it's too late for you, should ring major alarm bells for anyone reading this thread and who might be considering using a dodgy geezer to help them get a mortgage....Anyway 2/3 weeks later I received some paperwork from The National Hunter and after reading through I realised they had put a mark on my name due to the previous guy sending in altered documents to the bank to get me a mortgage. Answer: If you believe the information held is incorrect, we would advise you to contact the organisation you applied to.
Can National Hunter change data?
Answer:National Hunter is not the data owner and only the organisation submitting the data has the ability and authority to amend the data.0 -
On one of the documents it says ‘refer’ and the other it says ‘inconsistency’0

No I have not done anything yet I didn’t know I can do anything about. I will report this issue to action fraud and the police.0

You'd have to contact the bank to ask them to send corrected information to National Hunter to get it removed from your file. Unfortunately however, I don't think that's likely to happen but you never know until you try - it is technically an accurate representation of what has happened. I'd recommend reporting them to Action Fraud as mentioned above.
I'd probably also recommend checking all your credit files from all 3 CRAs and submit a subject access request to CIFAS, just on the off chance this broker has done more dodgy stuff on your "behalf"...0 -
Thank you for all the advice I have now written to the bank and awaiting their reply.0
