Refund on used car [Merged]

Hi on Saturday my mum purchased a 2016 used car with only 10k miles on it, one previous owner and was in immaculate condition. She briefly test drove it on Saturday with no issues.
Today she set off on her 4 hour trip home and approx 1 hour in it started to judder. She then turned around and head back to my brothers as was very concerned about driving it. The issue continued on her drive back.
On researching the issue tonight it seems to be a known fault with the make and model even to the extent the manufacturer ha extended the warranty on the part causing the problem to 5 from, 3 years.
Am I with my rights to reject the car and asked for a full refund as even though the issue can be fixed many owners report repeats of the same issue.
My mum is 73, lives remotely: on her own (widowed 5 months ago) and a 8 hour round trip to the dealership she needs a reliable car hence why I would like a refund and not a repair.
Thks

You have no rights, your mum purchased the car.

If she wants to reject it then she must prove that a, a fault exists and b, the fault was present at the time of sale. Some internet "research" simply isn't enough. Why did she buy a car from a dealer so far away?
  • Sorry should have said is my mum within her rights to return it. Easy to prove it has a fault, just need to drive it. Any ideas other than the internet to prove it’s a known fault.
She lives in a very remote part of the country and the nearest town with dealerships is 4 hours away.

Get a local mechanic to look at it?
  • It’s worth bearing in mind that in any resolution, the dealership didn’t choose where she lives, and she chooses to live there.
The distance from the dealership isn’t something the dealership need to factor in with their resolution - I’m sure they’ll help, but I wouldn’t expect them to go any more out their way than they would for another customer.

If the issue can be fixed, why reject the car? It seems a little extreme.
The comments I post are my personal opinion. While I try to check everything is correct before posting, I can and do make mistakes, so always try to check official information sources before relying on my posts.

Within the first 30 days after purchase, the customer can reject the car outright and does not have to give the garage the option of repairing it

The rub is that the car has to be delivered back to the garage, complete with all it's documents and keys - An 8 hour drive is likely to cause more damage to the car than that which exists now - Phone the dealers, advise them of the rejection and ask them what they want to do

Is the car subject to a recall, in which case it could well be fixed by the manufacturer at no cost.

But they do have to prove a fault exists and more importantly was present at the time of sale. Internet chatter isn't proof.
