Ebay hiding my items: We removed some search results to show you the most relevant listings.

Noticed when I search for some of my items that were listed under the £1 FVF promotion I get this message:

We removed some search results to show you the most relevant listings. View all results.

Click view all results and my item shows up, this could explain why some of my items are just not selling or getting the views. Those cheeky s@ds at ebay are omitting them from the search results, £1 clearly isn't enough profit for them.

The problem is there are so many tiers of sellers that it is easy to fall down the ratings. eBay always promised that business sellers would be highlighted, that suggests that private sellers are perhaps kept behind them, then business sellers with higher rating, business sellers who are power sellers then those who offer fast and free, then on top the promoted listings- it doesn't leave much room at all for the millions of listings out on every day.

As for profits, business sellers make eBay their money and do argue that they should therefore remain more visible than private sellers who pay considerably less fees.

  • The thing that really grates me is that if you search for the item and then sort it in price order so the lowest is shown first, my one being the cheapest won't even show up unless you click on the 'View all results.' link, a lot of people won't even see my item.

I can see why they favour the big business sellers or the sellers that pay them a lot of listing fees but it just means I end up hogging up their server space and my item takes a lot longer to sell resulting in less of my shiny pound coins in their coffers.

I pretty much only list on their £1 FVF days now, they're obviously not a fan of sellers like me.

The search is a mess, as above even searching by price if not what it used to be.

Quite often will will have very few results but the perfect match to my search term is amongst the hidden listings.

I purchased an item that didnt actually appear on any searches on any of their sites. .de .com . co.uk etc etc.. Only found from the item number. Even going to the sellers page said they had nothing for sale.

Did wonder if it was a scam but it arrived no problems.

I agree that search generally is a mess.

I have had the same experience as forgotmyname, I searched on my iPad for an exact model for my OH make, number etc. Instead of the item I got 'you may be interested in this' and instead of showing me OO gauge engines it started showing me car parts and other really odd things that only had one word in common with the item I was searching for.

If I did the exact same search on my PC though I found several examples of the engine he wanted.

The other thing I'm currently finding is that items located in the US are being suggested as something I might be interested in, before the results from U.K. Sellers. I even checked several times to make sure I wasn't accidentally logged into eBay.com, but I was definitely logged into eBay UK and the things I wanted were available from U.K. Sellers , no need at all to suggest US sellers.

eBay charge 10% on postage fees. They can make more from global shipping / International shipping fees than from a domestic seller.
