    Thank you for the replies. As someone pointed out, a claim is only for loss of earnings and as my daughter is school age and my mother is retired, they shouldn't be compensated for being in pain or any form of suffering.

    No, that's not right. The compensation is for pain and suffering. Loss of earnings, and any expenses incurred as a direct result, are also part of a claim, but wouldn't be compensation.

    However, as you said, your daughter was uninjured - she just had a bit of a scare - and your mother's injury was short-lived and minor. So any compensation would be absolutely minimal, simply because there isn't much to compensate for.
