Poor signal on post office router

Wifi seems to drop out about 5 metres and one wall away from the router. Is anyone else having issues or could it just be my house?

Wi-Fi dropping out is not the same as your internet connection dropping out. Do the router logs show internet drop outs? Do you get drop outs when connected to the router with a cable? If not then you are only having Wi-Fi issues which can be caused by many things such as the structure of your house or interference with nearby Wi-Fi signals.
  • Is your router dual band ?

If so, the 5Ghz band has much less range than the 2.4Ghz, so check which one you are connected to.

Install a WiFi analyser APP and find the least congested channel in the place you mostly use your WiFi, this can vary from room to room
  • Patchy1000,
You're not alone on this. The internet is fine but the router's WiFi signal is poor. I was very disappointed having suggested the deal for my mother who was having difficulty printing. To fix the issue I added a TP-Link range extender and now it's working.
The suggestion of finding an uncluttered 2.4ghz channel (1, 6, or 11) is a good one, although the frequency is slower. You may find a range extender a better solution. 5ghz frequencies also interfere with each other less.
    Hope that's helpful.

Set wifi channel to 1 6 or 11 and try .
  • Is the issue here really about distance from the router. I was thinking of going with Post Office broadband. I am only in a flat but this concerns me.
  • My contract with Post Office Broadband started in March, I have had two previous Broadband providers in this house and the speed and service has been excellent, but In March due to price hikes with EE I foolishly moved to PO and from day one it has been a terrible service.  At first I put it down to an increased demand due to more working from home, but now it is no better and despite complaints they have done nothing to help. {I am a single person household}  I have now been told that it will cost me £157 to leave them!  So, terrible service and they want more money to release me from this awful service.....I think this is actually how they make money!
    Avoid Post Office Broadband!
