It is always very difficult to give accurate advice without seeing the paperwork.

My suggestion is for your friend and you to take your paperwork to Citizens advice and ask them to do a benefits check for both of you.

It is very easy to not be aware of premiums being paid with your Pension Credit (and other means tested benefits) if you are unsure of the terminology.

The only other thing I can suggest is that you post exactly what your Pension Credit award letter says as regards how your Pension Credit has been calculated.

Completely agree - we seem to be going round in circles otherwise.

thanks , i already asked her this morning she doesn't receive sdp shes wondering now if they have made a mistake and shouldn't have been deducting it from her pension credit and this has been happening to her for over a year when her son first claimed carers

It's not a mistake. She was getting SDP before. When her son claimed Carer's Allowance she was no longer entitled to the SDP so it was stopped and she no longer gets it.

I am not clear why you want her to look at her paperwork. Your initial post is about your own Pension Credit entitlement. You need to check your own Pension Credit paperwork.

Do come back if you want to when you've been able to look at your paperwork, or do as pmlindyloo suggested and go to an advice agency.

  • yes i will thank you
  • I'm not sure that looking at the Pension Credit Award letter will be much help.

I was recently awarded Pension Credit and there is no breakdown of the amount awarded - just the total amount weekly amount.

I had to ring them up to make sure that the Carer Element for looking after my disabled husband had been included. There was no mention of it in the letter.

If the OP's award letter is similar to mine then there will be no breakdown showing that the Severe Disability Premium is being received.

My post at #9 has provided the figures to look out for.
