Handing car back at end of PCP

Hi

Really hoping someone can calm my fears about likely costs when handing a car back to Audi Financial Services at the end of a 4 year PCP.

My Audi A5 has done 14k miles and I called Audi Financial Services today to say that I want to hand my car back once my final payment has been taken at the beginning of September. It’s due an MOT which I’m having done on Monday. My question relates to the fact that technically it’s also due a large service (due to time not mileage). I don’t really want to have to pay an Audi dealership upwards of £500 for a major services when I’ll be handing the car back in a matter of 2-4 weeks. Ideally I’d like British Car Auctions to collect it without me servicing it and the I’ll pay for any damage over and above standard wear and tear.

Can anyone provide any guidance? Are BCA likely to charge me for a major service if I haven’t had one done by the time they inspect/collect? I’ve called Audi Financial services and they’ve said that it’s up to BCA. Can I get a major service done at a local and cheaper garage?

I believe you can get it done at any VAT registered garage, but they must use original parts.

The car isn’t yours it belongs to Audi. The PCP contract will state where services have to be done.

Have you checked how much you can trade the car in relative to the finance settlement?

It could be that the car is worth more than you owe, and you could trade now before the service is due for much less hassle...
  • Thank you! Ideally I’d like to not get it serviced at all! 🤞

Then make sure you hand it over before the due date of the service.

Also, have you really only done £14K in 4 years, genuine question?

If it's due a service and you haven't had it done you are going to get billed.

However that lack of service will impact the trade in value

Does the dash display the "service required in xx days message" ?

If you have owned it for four years when was it last serviced? At that very low mileage it ought to be on Audi annual service schedule. Thus it would need serviced every year, i.e. it should not need a service and MOT until the day your PCP expires.
What does it say in your PCP contract?
I would hand it back and hope :-)

    ++++++++++++

Audi fixed price servicing for a major service on your A5 is £349 for 2litre / £399 for 2+litre engine capacity.

If you've only done 14K miles i cant imagine the PCP mileage was set that low - likely 32K-40K, therefore i would imagine your car is worth a lot more than the residual.

May be worth buying it either with cash or a cheap loan.

Why arent you just doing that anyway? Seems a shame to hand back a car with that low a miles.
