I thought I was weird considering going to an Indian Restaurant for Xmas Day dinner.
Our local Indian Restaurant are opening on Xmas day for a 4 course lunch at only £14.95 per head.
All the traditional places want in excess of £45 per head.
Not sure OH would like indian for Xmas dinner though.
I'm SO glad I'm not alone in this untraditional xmas quest!0 -
we've had Toad in the hole, made with expensive sausages wrapped in bacon, mashed potato and veg follwed by baked alaska.
another year we had roast duck breast, last year we had cambert wrapped in puff pastry with cranberry sauce. Turkey is definatley a no-no in this house.0 -
We shall be having lamb and I'll cook a small chicken too - can't be doing with force feeding myself turkey for 3 days.0

wow thats so lovely I think you're an awesome mom for letting your kids decide and having the christmas be about them

I wouldnt even think about it twice, if you're bothered try and think why. Is it because you wanted a set meal together or wanted to do a bit of cooking? You could always do something on boxing day.
Seriously, get them burgers in
:D

H/M nut roast and usual veggies here. Christmas day would be ruined without sprouts. LOL (My very very favourite food with only chocolate coming close!)
Boxing Day is a mixed buffet which we're all bringing bits to at my parents' house. MIL will make a traditional dinner when we go there. I'll probably have nut roast again - hers is FANTASTIC!May all your dots fall silently to the ground.0 -
When my DS was 19 he moved into his own flat with GF and they wanted to spend xmas day together.
He did them both a nice small roast.
What did we have?
DH had cheese and pickle sandwiches and I had tuna ones.
We took them with us to the local woods and went for a long walk stopping for 'lunch'. We did, of course, have a bottle of wine and 2 plastic glasses with us.:j
We have done that several times since.
DS and GF are no longer together and he likes a roast at xmas.
So he is back this year for xmas and cooking it!!!
I cant lose, especially as he is a better cook than me.:D0 -
ONe of the best chrimbo dinners that we had was following a sugguestion of Jamie Oliver: pork in peaches. Cut open a large boneless joint of pork. stuff with butter and peaches mashed together and then tie up and cook. Sounds lousy, but is delicious!0

See, I agree
Sprouts are Christmas in my head.
I LOVE sprouts
I like them cold too.
And I like them with vinegar on. MY Nan told me that you should always put vinegar on sprouts and it brings out the flavour. She was right
OMG - I could eat a plate of sprouts right now.
Right this nano second.
And I LOVE bubble and squeak made with sprouts.
mmmmmm, sprouts.

I'm so glad my girls like sprouts tooSometimes it's important to work for that pot of gold...But other times it's essential to take time off and to make sure that your most important decision in the day simply consists of choosing which color to slide down on the rainbow...0 -
I HATE sprouts:p They are banned from our house! One year my Mum bought her own for Xmas lunch when I said I wouldn't be providing any. We hid them in the washing machine & gave them back to her as she was leaving, the washing machine smelt of sprouts for days!:p:rotfl:
Back to the untraditional Xmas lunch business, my neighbours always order a huge Chinease takeaway for Xmas eve & make sure they have enoguh leftovers to re-heat for Xmas brunch. Then they have sausages & mash in the evening, they swear it works for them:TPost Natal Depression is the worst part of giving birth:p
In England we have Mothering Sunday & Father Christmas, Mothers day & Santa Clause are American merchandising tricks:mad: Demonstrate pride in your heirtage by getting it right please people!0 -
We're vegetarian atheists, so we do Christmas without the religion or the turkey! Sod the "true" meaning of christmas, it's all about presents and stuffing yourself silly

We always have a sort of chestnut pie with puff pasty topping. Doesn't sound all that great but it's LUSH!0
