I would recommend that only adults change cambelts. A child would need to be supervised.

I see the penny still hasnt dropped that the O/P has no inclination in doing it themselves?

Some earlier posters expressed some nervousness (understandably) about tackling such a job themselves. For money saving inspiration have a look at 'Ratarossa' on YouTube. All self taught doing belts/tensioners and all major service items on his Ferrari's! USA owners doing the same on much newer ones!
These guy's are saving some serious amounts of cash.
Some good tips on his channel.
Funnily, i've been pondering a small Caddy sized van to facilitate a side project i'm going to work on. I havent seen much movement yet, but in theory markets like pickups and vans are likely to be hit by the upcoming downturn.
Would be interesting to hear if anyone has direct experience?

Why? So you can argue with them?
  • And here he is...
  • I own an independent garage that specialises in German cars. We would charge £325 + VAT

That's a good price. Can I ask whose kits you use? Our oldest 1.8T (AEB) is no longer supported, even TPS doesn't have any left. We've a newer AWT also but the tensioner is different so not compatible. I'm looking at Gates, Meyle, Dayco (maybe Continental), probably the first two being the best?
Always worth knowing a nearby independent, whereabouts are you based please?

And all of that, you'd expect a complete amateur with no knowledge or experience to know....

    £390 all in then.

Sounds like the price of £340 (not sure if inc or + VAT) the O/P has got is within the right ballpark.
