You need to do your research. The ideal pool will have a pump and chlorine the knack is using just enough chlorine without overdoing it.0

I can't see how a filter and pump can keep algae at bay without the addition of chemical assistance. The biochemistry behind it all means that in certain conditions algae will flourish. OP describes three weeks of use then leaving it covered for 5 days, with the pump running throughout. So you've got warm water in warm ambient temperatures, all sorts of "human stuff" chucked in there too.....it's the perfect recipe for algae and without chemicals to maintain the right pH levels you can pump water around all you like, it's a losing battle.
The pump sounds fit for purpose. Your lack of chemical assistance is the problem.0 -

It's the lack of knowledge that's the issue. Thinking a filter would keep things clean? Jesus Christ.0 -
Well summer is over now and soooo many customers want their money back for ‘faults’
Amazing how many seasonal products fail just as the season comes to an end. So many Xmas lights seem to fail a few days after xmas etc0 -
In the "Etiquette" section it tells me not to feed the trolls.......0

The pool had been up for approx 3 weeks and had been unused, and covered for 5 days I think - during that time we still maintained the pump/filter. Thank-you
And another foot get blown away...Even if you are swimming in your pool every day, a cartridge will last a minimum of two weeks, and much longer if you keep your pool covered and protected.Life in the slow lane0 -
We have a 10ft pool (this is its 3rd summer). We bought the pump separately - Although it’s the same as the one that would have been supplied if bought as a set. We replaced it this year as we felt it best, although the other was still doing its job, it was smaller and needed the filters replacing more often. It was perfectly adequate for the time we had it.
We also researched how to look after the pool and the water in it. We bought a chlorine floater. We also bought a starter set with algaecide, ph+, ph-, and some more chlorine for ‘shocking’, as well as some test strips. Oh, and a net and brush to help when cleaning.
We’ve had pretty much crystal clear water all the time. And 3 summers worth of happy kids!!
The filter supplied with yours will have been adequate for its intended use, which is to ‘help’ filter particles and dirt from the water.0
