BMW Good will repair cost

We have a local transmission specialist who only do clutch and gearbox repairs. All their work has a 12 month warranty. They charge £1k to recondition a gearbox in their factory. Even with your goodwill payment it would have been far cheaper just taking it there. It's hard to trust anyone in the repair industry but I would trust them to repair a gearbox much more than a BMW garage.0

Your chances of getting anything from the used car supplier, ten months down the line, are slim. The fact that you've been driving it around without issue for that long suggests the issue was not present at the time of sale - how do you plan to prove it was?0

Thanks for all the replies i just find the whole situation upsetting having to pay a couple of thousand to pay for a major part you just wouldn't expect to be replacing this early in the life of the vehicle.
The BMW dealer in fairness have been on my side and agreed since the vehicle has been fully serviced by them, is in excellent condition and is only 10 months out of warranty, a customer shouldnt really be in this position.
Im going to go back to the used car dealership (3 month warranty now expired) explain the situation and see if they can also contribute or even take the car back at part ex value.
The manager at BMW dealership said im unlikely to get an improves offer from BMW UK.
BMW are offering you a massive goodwill payment, when you didnt even buy the car from them or their main dealer network, and you've previously never darkened the door of their dealer network.
I think you're doing very well to get the deal you have.
You could try squeezing the dealer for a discount on the hourly rate saying as they are on your side and so keen to help
Personally, i WOULD be getting it done by BMW and just negotiate on the labour rate with the dealer.
ALSO, confirm they're happy to provide you a loan car for the duration - thats worth £££'s.0 -

So lets get this straight :-
You'd prefer "Dave's Reconditioned Gearboxes Limited" down some back street than a BRAND NEW, warranted, gearbox from BMW?
AND you havent factored in the cost of getting the gearbox pulled out, taken to Dave, left with Dave until he gets round to stripping it and rebuilding it, getting it back from Dave, and getting it build back in to the car AND the cost of a hire car in the fortnight or so thats likely to take end to end?0 -
I suspect the car is currently parked in the dealer's workshop with the old box on a pallet next to it...0

Yeah, the diagnostic cost will have involved pulling the box out.
Cant see why its taking £500 to pull it out, then £1500 to put it back in mind you.
I'd be querying that.
If the OP wants to take the (dismantled) car now, it'll be £575 for the work done to date.
If the OP wants to drive the fixed car home, the total bill will be £1,500. That'll include the 20% of the parts cost. as well as the diagnostic computer time to make the new box talk properly to the rest of the car, as well as the extra time to put it back over dismantling - adjustment/road-testing etc.0 -
I read it as the OPs 20% of the gearbox plus labour would cost £1570, so it is about £500 labour.I want to go back to The Olden Days, when every single thing that I can think of was better.....
(except air quality and Medical Science)
