I already had a smart meter and after EDF nagged me to have one or be kicked off I told them I had one. They knew that and said it was an old one so didn't count. I agreed to have another fitted and they were late for the appointment so I got £30 out of them .

And there is a further part of the lunacy that is the UK smart meter rollout:eek:

yeah Kes. I could move to another supplier, or see what else EDF were offering.
But I doubt I will get as good a deal as my current tariff.

I did go with npower select for a few months.
No exit free and no requirement for smart meter.

However they wanted readings every 2 weeks or something silly :rotfl: and then this cheaper EDF deal came along at a similar price to last year

    As mentioned on another thread....

Was due to get a smart meter installed today with EDF.

The appointment has been a month in the planning. Regular updates and reminders. Engineer then failed to show during the allocated 2 hour slot. EDF then cancelled the appointment but never told me.

I now have to re-schedule the appointment and first available slot that is suitable is another month away.

Don't think I'll bother. Mind is made up that I will leave EDF at end of the contract after only being a customer for a month and a half.

I'm also on the Easy Online Exclusive Jul20v3 as well.

According to the EDF T&Cs, smart meters are now mandatory on the latest Simply Online tariff:

Simply Online 1 Year Fix Sep20: Smart meter optional
Simply Online 1 Year Fix Sep20v2: Smart meter optional
Simply Online 1 Year Fix Sep20v4: Smart meter mandatory (The tariff info on CEC states it's optional, but the T&Cs say otherwise).

@MSE Chris, can you please check this and clarify?

If we want a cheaper tariff now the 3mth's install of a smart meter are creeping into all the tariffs. This is how they are getting around the non compulsory installs.

Thanks Charlie12 for the information. CEC get paid commission by EDF so they should display the correct tariff info.and not mislead people.

Yes and even worse, if EDF do kick people onto Deemed Contract they will be charged £35 exit fee per fuel for the privilege.Obviously taking a hard line with "opt-outers "
CEC should not state it's "opt-outable"
when it's not.Next time I use CEC to change supplier I will remember their tarriff information is unreliable

EDF having read the TandC out me in two occasions it does amuse me.

Is says if they are fitting SM in your area you much agree to have one fitted.

If you don’t want one fitted you can opt out.

    Lol

@MSE Chris why did this never get a response?

Please could you update as I am on the Simply Online 1 Year Fix Sep20v4 and I can find nothing in any correspondence.

    Can we not trust CEC?
Is there any redress with CEC or ANother if they were wrong?

It's frustrating as I have just had a nasty email:

Take action to stay on your Simply Online tariff

As a customer who signed up to our competitively-priced Simply Online tariff*, you agreed to have a smart meter upgrade within three months. Time is running out to book your install appointment. Take action today.

    Get smart

Under the terms of your Simply Online tariff, it's important that you take action when offered your smart meter upgrade. If you don't take action and book your smart meter install, we will end your contract – and charge you an early exit fee of £35 per fuel. You'll then be moved on to our Deemed contract scheme, that has a different price.

It's really easy to book an appointment. Or you can call us on 0333 200 5104. Lines are open Monday to Friday, 10am to 8pm. If you no longer wish to stay on this tariff, an adviser will help you find one more suitable. Once you've transferred to a new tariff, you'll not be charged the early exit fee.

The only thing I can say that happened to me, is the minute the smart meter was installed they kicked us off the Blue+ trarrif and said that tarrif doesn't work with smart meters. And since the instillation of the smart meter our money doesn't last as long. So I am switching as soon as I get the winter credit money.
