University and Job

Well getting a job in the summer has not gone to plan but now i have a question. I would like a job during university, but what will happen during christmas time if I apply somewhere, would i have to apply again after the holidays because i have to go back home?

Apply for a zero hours type job which is flexible in that respect. Loads of takeaway food places have casual work all the time for this very reason.

Hi again Sam. It's going to depend on the employer, though I would expect it is something they have to deal with regularly if they are in a university town. Some major chains even left you transfer to your home town store in holidays to provide extra cover - friend's daughter did this with Next.

    No.

But only because you will have already explained to your prospective employers that you are only available during term time.

I think you would just aim to take annual leave like everyone else. People's contracts don't usually end every time they go on holiday!

Employers can deny annual leave requests, some may well do during christmas as for many it's the busy period. Maybe try the student bar / campus shops / student nightclubs etc to work for

But if its at a university city surely other places would know that students have to go back to their home city during Christmas especially. Easter maybe is a bit different because it would probably be in exam season which means i could be able to stay

Unfortunately most employers frankly couldn't care less if it's a university city. This is working life and they have a business to run.

I get that, so do you think its best I apply for jobs inside the university such as bar work on campus then outside?
