Hi, just trying to do breakdown cover via TCB with Asda but when I put down the registration date 2001 it rejects it. Car is an original V40 S automatic Volvo registered Dec 2001, they have a drop down list of models but V40 only appears on the list once. Any ideas? Don't want to phone them as I want the cashback.

    Maybe it's too old.

There is no age restriction in the terms. Was the original V40 known as anything else?

Try putting in another registration of a known car of that age or older. If it gets rejected as well, it would suggest that the website has an age filter on it even though the terms don't include an age restriction.

It's a crap filter is it's just done on the reg number as that may not be an indication of agar.

Have read through the home page and FAQ and it says nothing about restrictions or exclusions, it states 1. Roadside Cover from £27 a year
With up to 6 call-outs a year, you’ll be covered anywhere in the UK if you’re at least a quarter of a mile from home.
    2. UK Breakdown Cover from £78 a year
With no vehicle age limits, this cover includes Home Assist and recovery to a local garage, we’re here to help.

Where are you seeing restrictions on cover? The only thing I see is - Will you cover me?
    We can provide cover if...
Your vehicle is in a roadworthy condition, has a current MOT and is serviced and maintained in line with manufacturer guidelines
Your vehicle has a legal and serviceable spare wheel, space saver or tyre inflation device
Your vehicle is not used as a taxi for private or public hire or for delivery/courier services
Your car/van doesn't weigh more than 3.5 tonnes when fully loaded and is not larger than 7m long, 2.3m wide and 3m in height
If you're insuring a motorhome it doesn't weigh more than 7.5 tonnes and is not longer than 8m

S40 was saloon, V40 was estate.
The original-shape S/V40 was launched in 1995, and replaced in 2004.

There's absolutely nothing unusual or impossible about a 2001 V40. Their systems are clearly a bit incompetent if they don't have such a mainstream model listed.

It says it here under 'Are there any restrictions on cover?':-

    https://money.asda.com/media/2974/important-policy-information-bi81-apr18.pdf

It would seem the cars have to be under 10 years old when the policy is started but will continue to be covered to 'any age' after that.
