We have had a problem with a company not taking sufficient skill and care during an end of tenancy clean. The carpet was also not cleaned as per the contract.
They are not registered at Companies House so I am guessing they are a sole trader or partnership...or possibly an overseas company. They have a call centre and our complaint could only be made by email. They refused to address any of our concerns and will not give us information about the owner or their whereabouts. They have a residential address to which I have sent a registered letter. No response. I presume there's no way to take them to small claims? Thanks for reading.

How much did you pay for the carpet to be cleaned? If you are querying your Council Tax band would you please state whether you are in England, Scotland or Wales0

The whole EoT clean was around 400, supposedly to include the carpet clean.
The rest if the work was subpar. Two cleaners stayed 3 hours.0 -
You are a business ??0

£400 for 6 hrs cleaning is a lot.
Without a business address it will be difficult to make a claim, the residential address may not be that of one of the partners or directors and the registered letter may be refused.
It is never a good idea to send registered, recorded or signed for letters to an address from where a rogue tradesperson or company may be operating. Send the same letter from 2 different post offices and get a certificate of posting from eachIf you are querying your Council Tax band would you please state whether you are in England, Scotland or Wales0 -
5 hours cleaning actually.
The letter was signed for at the address given on Yell for the company.
A certificate of posting doesn't guarantee delivery. Why is it not a good idea to send a signed for letter?0 -
No...it's a consumer rights issue.0

Because the recipient can refuse to sign or accept the letter. Courts work on the probability of a letter sent actually being correctly delivered, a certificate proves it was posted.
So if this address was given for the company by Yell is not the "business" address, it may be the registered address or address of a partner or director (good) or the address of an actual cleaner (not so good)If you are querying your Council Tax band would you please state whether you are in England, Scotland or Wales0 -
The letter was signed for though. And it was addressed to the company. Courts don't accept certificates of posting.
The company isn't registered as I said.0 -

+1
The Interpretations Act deems that a document is served 2 working days after posting (if sent 1st class and posting can be proven).0
