Spending money advice for 2wks orlando..

Hello MSE forum Members,
My family and I are going on a once in a lifetime holiday to Orlando.. We are four adults two weeks with a three park package from virgin... (No Disney)... For us this truly is a once in a lifetime trip (furthest we have travelled is Italy) so we have saved hard approx £1350 each.. So totalling around £5500. We have Bed and breakfast so this figure will be for meals drinks snacks etc. Etc. And of course spending money.. I have looked at prepaid cards favouring easyFx as it says there are no fees at all and does not confuse me with charges.. But part of me would just like to exchange the lot into hard dollars, split it between the four of us for travelling purposes.... I have read lots of forums and the MSE advise, but forgive me i am a cash sort of man and overseas CC, prepaid CC are all a bit of a head spinner. In fact the whole issue of taking spending money has become just a haze to me.... With a charge here and a charge there, this card that card.. Anyone here done a similar trip, any plain advise would be appreciated.. Thankyou

    https://www.starlingbank.com/travel/ is what you need.
If you want to buy US$ in advance, you can look at the FairFx offer of an extra £35 worth of currency; https://www.moneysavingexpert.com/credit-cards/prepaid-travel-cards/#fairfx

EasyFx don't even show the rate that you will actually receive until you have an account. They could mislead you by showing Interbank rates, but giving you an entirely different rate. Don't fall for such nonsense.
*These rates are Interbank mid-market rates. Please log onto your account to get a real time customer rate.

You should also have a no fee credit card for deposits.

Have read up on the parks?

Disney is Orlando. The Universal parks are their pale imitation.
  • Thankyou you for your reply... Although we are a family of four the youngest is 27...so Disney maybe put of our age range... But having never been or imagined we could afford to go there.. We thought rightly or wrongly that Disney may not be for us..... I appreciate your response and non relavant answer but the question was regarding spending money. Thankyou

I would argue the opposite. We go to Orlando every few years and have stopped bothering with Disney. We find the Universal parks and Seaworld much better.
  • Thankyou for your quick response. Would love to hear your advise on spending money and how to take it as you are regular visitors.

Disney can be enjoyed by all ages, I first went in my 30s. Don't know about Universal, it wasn't there when I was in my 30s!
Tall, dark & handsome. Well two out of three ain't bad.

No one should be going to Seaworld.

In the UK do you withdraw cash from your bank account to use, or simply spend with your card?

If the latter,, your time in Florida need be no different, using fee-free cards such as Starling Bank, Monzo. Cash is rarely necessary in the US.

Don't waste your hard earned savings for the trip on the expense and hassle of exchanging cash, then afterwards having to exchange unused dollars back again (or use them up without good purpose).
    Evolution, not revolution
