  • 'ynab' is 'you need a budget' budgeting software I use to help me.

I completely understand re non decluttering partner. Most of our house is stuffed with my husbands stuff, although he has got better over the last 20years! We had a storage unit or a while when we lived in a flat with two kids. It really helped when we put it on the market, but we didn't keep it once we moved.

oooh I might take a look at the budgeting software once i'm settled into my new work routine & good to hear im not on my own re partners and their boys toys!

  • Well I must admit that yesterday it felt properly like the start of the new year, I was still in party mode on the 1st! The tree is down & decorations are packed away for another 11 months and yesterday we went to IKEA. We needed more boxes for the christmas decs etc and we are going to replace our temporary wardrobes in the spring so needed to check out IKEA's offering, long story short we bought lots of random but needed items.

Today I think everyone in my house have been suffering from indulgence hangover - we all a bit grumpy and in need of getting back to our routines. The kids are back at school & nursery next week, its usual working weekend for me and partner. I've made a bit batch of beef stew for this weekend, cleaned out the fridge and worked out what fruit and veg we have, the answer is quite a bit! So next week I'll have to come up with one or two recipes.

Hello early friday - typical I woke up hours before I needed to!

Today is my last day of freedom! Tomorrow and Sunday I am working my final shifts in my current job and on monday morning I start back in the world of monday to fri 9-5! I am nervous and excited at the same time about the changes coming up.

This week my partner and I finally took the plunge and set up a joint account. Upto now my lovely partner has been paying the lions share of the bills and rent and as I am determined to be an independent lady I insisted that once I got a full time job we'd get more even with the bills. It couldn't have come at a better time as my overtime was going to dry up and my partner found out he was being overpaid for a significant amount for the past 5 years so we now have a big debt to sort out which we've only just found out about. I can't do anything about it atm as it is with the bosses to agree how much he'll have to pay back each month and for how long. Its an eye watering sum and I'd rather not think about it so parking this for now.

This week I stumbled across the 1p Savings Challenge Saving you £671.61 and need to print off the form and planning to start this challenge alongside saving 5k challenge in 2020.

Currently my credit card is way too high but I wont be able to tackle this debt until I get into the new job. There is some light is at the end of the tunnel though!

Apart from food shopping and cleaning its a pretty easy day today, oh and we might be going to the cinema to see the new starwars movie.

  • Good luck with the new job.

That sucks about your partners wage. If it's their mistake hopefully they'll allow a very gentle payback system. Can't they just write the cash off though? It does seem a little unfair. Otherwise he'll be on a lower salary and then lower still as he pays it all back. I'd be fighting that.

  • I have been so busy this week with new job that i've not had time to post an update, so here is a quick one.

After much deliberating about travel options to new job - its in central london. I am taking a combination of bus and tube. I was going to take the bus but time is money I've decided against it for now. Anyway commute is bearable atm.

Location for new job is dangerous... way too many easy ways to part with my hard earned cash. I'm taking lunch in so big tick for mse but its the extras to watch.

I'm also hoping that my debt has reached its peak. I get paid from old job next week. It won't cover what I need but onwards and upwards an all that.

Right im off... I have a date with Dracula!

  • Hello Saturday,

Yay! I have been looking forward to today all week. So finally finished my 7 day working stint and tbh it wasn't that bad but not sure i'd want to work every day. Anyway the weekend is here and the kids are with their dad so I am having a no spend day and just relaxing at home. I've updated my spreadsheets and the inner excel geek is finding that by allocating my work travel costs which are pretty fixed into my monthly spending spreadsheet at the start of the month this is helping me a lot more to be able to stick to my budget.

Tomorrow's plans are pretty much similar to today except I need to do some food shopping to get some groceries for the week for kids pack ups etc.

  • frrrosty Sunday,

I could definitely get used to this not working on a weekend lark :)

Yesterday I stuck to my guns and didn't spend anything which is a minor victory! Today I need to pop to the shops for a small number of groceries but cupboards are pretty well stock atm.

In my continued attempt to reduce my debt I was looking into getting another credit card for balance transfer. This is for the amount of money on my day to day spending card which I am paying monthly interest on. I didn't pass the eligibility thing sadly. Its hard trying to get out of debt but not going to let this get to me today things are definitely going forward it might just take a bit time (& i'm impatient!).

Yesterday I calculated I had put £307.82 into the savings pot in Jan which is a good start. I know some will read this diary and think why not put this into my credit card. Well yes good idea but I have game plans for both increasing the savings and paying off my debt at the same time. On the positive tomorrow is week 2 of new job and looking forward to getting stuck into it.

Next weekend I'm going to investigate Monzo. Heard so much good stuff about it.

Right better go back to the cleaning... zzzzz

  • Friends of mine invested in monzo when it first started. They love it and always trying to get us to move. But I use ynab so don't need the savings pots and I earn interest on my bank account atm.
