OS heroes

I was in the kitchen making Twink's hobnobs yesterday and it got me thinking about MSE heroes, past ones particularly.
I've been around for about 12 years, I think (I had another username previous to this one) - first logging on in my late teens - and I think I've saved thousands as a result. Gingham Ribbon's veggie recipes and food plans are still in rotation in my house (brown sauce in everything - I wonder where she went?), ad of course cant forget squeaky and Pink. I seem to remember a very sage user called Queenie too.
Who is your OS hero?

JackieO - sound common sense advice, can turn a budget on a sixpence as the saying goes. Also, when I was very new to MSE we were both waiting for the result of tests.I had the better news, but we're both still here :T
Still miss Errata, but raise a glass to her memory at the start of every Strictly season.
Lots of others, of course.I can cook and sew, make flowers grow.0 -
I second JackieO for all her thrifty ways with leftovers and also a poster called MrsMcawber who posted loads of recipes on the Grocery Challenge. I haven't 'seen' her around for years but I still use some of her Slimming World recipes. I also miss squeaky and Pink's posts. There are so many lovely people on here as well as on the other boards, it's a fantastic community.0

JackieO brings something to the boards that's something of a legacy. She must be quite elderly because she often mentions that her frugal ways come from her mum's habits during wartime and she remembers rationing. I think she's had some hard times since too. Fortunately most us don't remember those really hard times such as war but the frugal ways continue thanks to people like her.:)
I remember MrsMcawber and her SW recipes. Last I heard of her she was delighted because she'd had a much longed for baby late in life so she's probably too busy to post.0 -
I'm a quiet legend.0

Lovely to hear of the Legends.
Definitely JackieO - you’re a fab lady and so helpful
MrsMcAwber for her fab recipes
Diva for hers too and her general loveliness
Pink and her sister Haribo
And yes Gingham with her amazing recipe thread
Lots more I’m sure!0 -
JackieO - a lovely lady who I met a couple of years ago. She is so helpful and has so many ideas.
Mrs McCawber for her brilliant SW recipes. I still use some of her recipes now.
I remember printing out all the Gingham Ribbon threads for her lovely veggie meals - must sort that out again.
It's hard picking out particular posters as there are so many great people on MSE.0 -
I read every day but rarely post
JackieO without a doubt - legend. Enough said
Grey Queen too can make a penny do the work of a pound. She is so inventive.
LessonsLearned for her sage advice
Am sure there are plenty of others but grey cells aren't working fully 😊I got there - I'm debt free and intend to stay that way. If I haven't got the cash, it doesn't get bought. It's as simple as that.0 -
Lovely thread!
For me: JackieO for her wonderful practicality and enjoyment of life, Curry Queen, Twink and Black Saturn for their recipes, still use Twink’s and Black Saturn’s biscuits and fruit cobbler recipes. Butterfly Brain for her excellent practical advice and her weetabix cake recipe, definitely miss and remember Pink and Squeaky, Queenie and her PIN Money Saving Challenges, Lainey and Mrs Lurcherwalker, love reading their posts. So many others too, both from the past and the present.

Crikey, I'm sitting up in bed at the moment on my laptop, and my family are all still asleep (we are on our annual holiday to the IoW)
,
Thank you all for your kind words and i'm blushing a bit ,I really am very ordinary and nothing special at all .
I would nominate Grey Queen as she makes me laugh, as well as giving sensible common sense answers to so many things.
I remember with great fondness the late and lovely MoneySavingDiva and lots of her recipes I have saved bless her
.Joedenise I believe we met up in Macnades a year or so ago.
I also had great fun in Blackpool and met a good few of you Meanmarie in London, and Nelski we shared a bottle or two of plonk in Blackpooland Caterina whose OH is not very well at the moment.
Ruth whose online name evades me at the momentDriving back from Blackpool with her and Caterina and singing Nessun Dorma with Caterina's version in Italian
great weekend that was.
I have met a good few folk on here both in the flesh and virtually I remember when I was going through chemo chatting to a lady during the night when I was feeling particularly low and fed up with life after not long being widowed, and she cheered me up no end .
I count each and every one as a friend and hopefully I don't think I have fallen out with anyone
You all have seen me through some good and bad times, and that is what this forum is about its the excellent part of the internet where people are just that human beings who it doesn't matter if you are rich ,poor, fat, thin black white or green we all seem to get along far better on here than a lot of people do in 'real' lifethank you all for being my friends I do appreciate it.
I do natter probably a bit too much about my grandchildren , but that is allowable as its a grandma's prerogative
You have heard al about their ups and downs and my life probably is much the same as most peoples, good fun at times ,sad at times and reflective (quite often) But I wouldn't miss all the past few years as I have 'seen' good and bad times happen to a lot of you and we all share our little windows of our lives together I am grateful to you all
So once more Thank You all for being my friend
Cheers chums
JackieO xxx
P.S. Normal service will resume no doubt next weekend after I am back home in Kent xx0 -
I would agree with all thus far mentioned.
Famous in your own lifetime JackieO! Hope you are having a great ( thrifty!) holiday.
