Thoughts on Lidl?

  • I prefer Lidl over Aldi. I do almost 80% of my grocery shopping in Lidl. I hate that sometimes they don't refill the racks and I can't find everything I planned to buy.

Ill stick to just shopping around which saves me more money tham just blindly buying aldis stuff which is a bit hit & miss.

I buy most of my weekly shop in Aldi but that doesn't mean I don't shop around. There are bargains to be had in many shops. I regularly buy store cupboard items in Home Bargains, Poundstretcher, Farm foods etc. I'm sure even Tesco would have something worth buying if you have the time and it's not too far out of your way.

I'll be off to Sainsburys shortly. The 25% off wine offer is back and I have a voucher too. :D

You've obviously missed this recent ASA finding on misleading Tesco advertising aimed at Aldi:

You must also have missed various surveys by Which? pitting Aldi in the top 2 or 3 best supermarkets, and consistently much cheaper (with Lidl), along with review after review rating their products more highly than the big brands.

Shop around by all means. You'll struggle to beat Aldi and Lidl, and it depends how you value your time.

But i dont struggle to beat Aldi. Much of the basics are the same price, and non food stuff is poor quality.

There is very little in Aldi that could possibly be described as being of poor quality. Which is more than can be said of Tesco.

You carry on your campaign against Aldi though. Even if it makes no sense, and you know very little about the matter. :p

To me, Aldi and Lidl are interchangeable as supermarkets. I do not discriminate :)

I agree entirely. This guy, though, is carrying out some sort of vendetta against Aldi, probably because it’s hitting Tesco harder.

    Shower gel

Fresh food has short sell by dates also.
Ive lost money on their bread going mouldy a day before sell by.

    Heres another example
    Eggs.
    Eggs are eggs.
    Aldi a box of 15 cost £1.18
    In Tesco its £1.19
So after clubcard points there the same.
I get 5% cashback on a corporate membership which makes them 5p cheaper in Tesco.

It will hit Tesco harder. Ive got 5% cashback with them plus a load of free clubcard points via tesco bank with cash recycling.
Thats why Aldi isnt cheaper. Plus their checkouts are awful.
Once they told me to move over to till 2, then a few mins later changed their mind wanting to join further back in the queue i previously left. I left all my goods on the till & walked out.

Sorry, have to disagree with the "eggs are eggs" statement

I personally won't buy cheap eggs, which both of your price point indicate they are

I have just given up keeping my own hens and having to buy supermarket eggs for the first time in years, Ive only found one brand of eggs that have anywhere near a decent taste, and they are closer to £2 for 6

So lidl, Aldi, or Tesco, at that price, they don't appear on my table

excuse the off topic post :)
