BMW ?timing chain. Sell car or claim on BMW Comprehensive warrenty

Hello I have a 2014 420i. I am 90% sure the timing chain is bust. Its making the characteristic noise when I rev the engine.

This noise started 2 days ago. By sheer luck I took out the BMW warranty 2 weeks ago.
I cannot find any data to suggest I cannot claim on the BMW warranty straight away.

My options are :
1. Sell the car to we buy any car and buy a different car
2. Use BMW warranty but risk them refusing to cover as it has happened so early into my policy. If they refuse I would be left with a large bill to pay for the engine to be fixed and would not be able to sell it as it would be confirmed an issue.

What do you guys think?

my thoughts are there are more to this than you are telling us. You were aware of the fault when taking out the warranty; pre existing faults will not be covered.

You know about the issue and it is highly likely that any potential purchaser (wbac or other) would also notice it.

    Your options are:

    1) warranty accept cover and pay out.
    2) pay to fix it yourself
    3) sell with the fault and inform any potential purchaser.

Not scrap - a 5yo 4-series is going to be worth putting an engine in. Just a very big bill.

I would personally park it for a month or so then go via warranty

I think it looks like you're pulling a fast one. Was it "sheer luck" that you've just taken out the warranty or have you taken it out in the knowledge of an impending expensive problem?
  • Genuinely only noticed it the other day. I appreciate it is suspect but can they realistically turn me down. I cant see anything in their terms and conditions about a qualifying period.

I wasn't aware insurance fraud is now part the MSE ethos. But it must be, as it's being suggested by a couple of experienced members.

I don't see the OP really has any option other than to call BMW warranty and let them decide if they trust him with regard to when the engine started to fail.
  • Put it into an auction?

Well contact them, explain what's happened and see what they say.
