Is Barclays ever wrong when they say can find no PPI?

Don’t bother with a CMC, they’ve got no special access to your Barclaycard records. What you could try is writing to the underwriter called Monument Insurance, previously Barclays Insurance Dublin. They seem to have policy details back to 1997.
It sounds like you’ve already registered your complaint with Barclaycard before the 29th, so you can carry on doing your research
I have already sent a letter to Barclaycard (still awaiting a reply). , but reading this useful information, I'm going to also put in a last-minute letter to Monument Insurance. Do you have any idea of their address? I've had a quick look on google, but can't think anything.
Do you have any idea who their underwriter was pre 1997? (e.g 1990 to 1997?).0 -

Quick update, I've found a "Monument Re Group" website which I presume is for the correct company. It states the following: Monument Insurance DAC and Monument Assurance DAC (formerly Barclays Insurance (Dublin) DAC and Barclays Assurance (Dublin) DAC) have an established presence in the industry with c.20 years of insurance history in both non-life and life products. The companies were established in 1998 to underwrite PPI and IP business to Barclays’ UK customers".
However, the address for Monument Insurance DAC (MIDAC) is in Ireland! Do you know of any UK address I could use?

That’s the correct company, you have to write to the address in Dublin. They hold records for policies that were live from 1996/7.
The underwriter for Barclaycard PPI before 1996 was CFIG, then Financial Insurance Company, now AXA.0 -

Many thanks for this information. I'm in a dilemma now, and wondering what I should do i.e I don't want to leave any stone unturned and end up missing out because I didn't write/get in contact with the underwriters before the 29th August 2019. I have already sent off my letter to Barclaycard, contacted them last week, and have acknowledged my letter and I'm awaiting a reply. With the deadline being on Thursday, I can definitely send AXA the letter, before then, as they are based in the UK (i.e send on Tuesday, and it will arrive at their offices on Wednesday; send to: AXA Insurance
5 Old Broad Street
London
EC2N 1AD
). However, if I were to send a letter to Dublin, it would take 3-5 working days, so it wouldn't get there by Thursday. So what should I do now? (e.g is it worth emailing the company based in Dublin? I couldn't find a phone number on the website, unless someone knows it?).

Hi sun73, I've just found this address based in the UK:
Barclays Policy Admin Department
c/o Monument Insurance
50 Kings Hill Avenue
West Malling
Kent
HE19 4J
Do you think it's worth sending my letter there?0 -
I claimed back in March via MSE from Barclaycard. I received a letter saying that they have investigated my card numbers and were unable to find a PPI policy on my account. I haven't saved any statements apart from the very first one fro 2003 with the first balance transfer on it. But nothing else. I gave them my account details from the statement, so they're not denying I had an account. I definitely had PPI and really thought it was with Barclaycard - are they ever wrong when they send out letters denying you had PPI? I don't know whether to challenge their answer from March. Thanks
Now I've just found this online bbc.co.uk news - business-your-money-46260409 that companies like Barclaycard are too often giving incorrect information and denying policies existed when PPI checked. I've reopened the case with Resolver on MSE but should I get a company involved instead? I can't find any info on MSE?
Hi MKav I don't know if I am in a fortunate position but I applied through a CMC in 2017 for a card I only had with barclaycard in 1980's and was rejected for any mis-selling with Barclaycard to which I accepted. However, this year in Jun 19 out of the blue I received a letter from Barclays to say they apologise that they had made a mistake on a claim that I had made in 2017 and compensated me with £4500. I believe that the pressure put on these institutions is making them do the right thing if it is genuine that there is a genuine complaint!:)0
