Is Barclays ever wrong when they say can find no PPI?

I claimed back in March via MSE from Barclaycard. I received a letter saying that they have investigated my card numbers and were unable to find a PPI policy on my account. I haven't saved any statements apart from the very first one fro 2003 with the first balance transfer on it. But nothing else. I gave them my account details from the statement, so they're not denying I had an account. I definitely had PPI and really thought it was with Barclaycard - are they ever wrong when they send out letters denying you had PPI? I don't know whether to challenge their answer from March. Thanks
Now I've just found this online bbc.co.uk news - business-your-money-46260409 that companies like Barclaycard are too often giving incorrect information and denying policies existed when PPI checked. I've reopened the case with Resolver on MSE but should I get a company involved instead? I can't find any info on MSE?

On what basis would you "challenge"?
Ask them to check again and the answer will be the same.Such a request might also be seen as vexatious.
A Subject Access Request (SAR) letter would net you everything they have kept on file for you, but it's a little late for such research with only a week to go before the deadline..0 -
I'm in the same position with Barclaycard.
They say they can't find me despite me giving huge amounts of information ie previous names, addresses etc and even a copy of two statements showing the account numbers etc.
I know I had a policy with them - tried 3 times over the past year and still the same......you don't/didn't exist!0 -

Do either of those two statements show a charge for PPI? Where you paying the full balance every month?0 -

Don’t bother with a CMC, they’ve got no special access to your Barclaycard records. What you could try is writing to the underwriter called Monument Insurance, previously Barclays Insurance Dublin. They seem to have policy details back to 1997.
It sounds like you’ve already registered your complaint with Barclaycard before the 29th, so you can carry on doing your research0 -

Barclaycard have gone above and beyond others. In the past they only checked the records they held on their main systems. However, a few years back, they started bringing back long archived data onto their systems and checking if those people had made a PPI complaint and contacted them to let them know they had found new information.
Maybe they are struggling with the backlog. I've found them dreadful over the last few weeks. Cancelling my complaint "as at" a date before I even sent it. Sending me conflicting information in different letters. Insisting that I had to change the name on my account before they would speak to me. Confirming my account number and details in one set of correspondence, then saying I have never had an account number with them in another.0 -
I've tried last year and this year so judging by one of the replies - they would have had archived data at their disposal. I closed the accounts in 2010.
Unfortunately the statement I have left is one with a nil balance on (when I was closing them...both BC and MC)
It's more infuriating that they are denying my existence when i have proof!0 -

They are not denying your existence. They are saying the records no longer exist. It's now down to you to prove you had PPI, you are the one making the complaint.0 -
I used the Barclays online PPI enquiry form to find out if I had PPI on my Barclaycard account. At the time of enquiring, my browser timed out so I wasn’t 100% sure if it went through or not but thought I would leave it a week to see if I heard anything.
After a week I phoned the Barclaycard PPI number and explained what happened and the gentleman said that he could see that my enquiry went through fine and that a letter had been sent out to say that I didn’t have PPI on this account. Just before putting the phone down, he asked me to confirm a couple of details with him (same as what had been on the enquiry form) and he said he didn’t know why a letter had been sent saying I didn’t have PPI as he found it and so I submitted the complaint while I was on the phone with him.
I’m glad I made that phone call!0
