Rust - Ford Focus 2008

  • Rust like that is nothing to worry about.

Remember that the bodywork on Ford Sierras started rotting from the age of two years, beginning with bubbling of the rear wheel arches, and the car would be completely rotten by six or seven year of age.
"There are not enough superlatives in the English language to describe a 'Princess Coronation' locomotive in full cry. We shall never see their like again". O S Nock
  • Only bit that might be of concern is the top layer of the chassis strut seems to be peeling back. Perhaps worth having a garage re seal that if its not too deep.
  • Yeah it's nothing too serious at the moment, but the bit where it's flaking definitely needs hitting with a wire-wheel and repainting rather than letting it get worse and fail the next MOT.

All my old Fords in the 1970s used to rust badly. I’d use a brush to apply old engine oil to those suspension arms etc to keep rust at bay. Was cheaper than waxoyl. Unless old rust is cleaned off, pretty pointless to seal over the top of it now.

  • I had my 2006 Avensis undersealed at a local car restorers last week, they blasted all the loose off with high pressure washer, let dry overnight, applied 8 cans of Schultz let dry overnight then applied 5 litres of clear wax, £350 , only worth doing if the rest of the car is in good shape and mine is.
