Christmas Breakfast

Comments

  • Coming from a traditional Lincolnshire family, we have pork pie and bread and butter for Xmas breakfast! Have yet to convince many people of its merit, and I have to admit I wouldn't dream of it on any other day of the year, but Xmas day just wouldn't be right without it.

Don't suppose anyone else can confirm this tradition? (I'm beginning to think it is a freaky family tradition rather than a local area one!)

    Hi Tracy

I'm from Lincolnshire, too, and am happy to confirm that my freaky family all start the day with pork pie as well! :T My Dad is Lincolnshire born and bred, and when he and my Mum got married nearly 40 years ago, she couldn't believe that he was serious about having this for breakfast (she was from the other end of the country, so what would they know...?!?!;)). Of course, she's now converted. :D

The other part of Christmas breakfast for my Dad's family was coffee with rum in it. We have adapted that over the year's to coffee with whatever you fancy in it (or just coffee and a separate alcoholic drink for those who prefer not to mix them - I personally favour a separate glass of Bailey's!). However, the pork pie is non-negotiable. And I absolutely agree, pork pie for breakfast would be wrong on any other day of the year, but on Christmas Day, there is nothing else to have!! :rotfl:

P.S. For years, my cousin and his wife used to drive over from Norfolk to have breakfast with us on Christmas Day, just so that he could get his Christmas Pork Pie fix.:p Even now, Mum and Dad have visitors who pop in on Christmas morning - seemingly to deliver pressies, but they all manage a piece of pie as well!
  • Knowing that you're going to have such a big meal later in the day, how about a lovely fresh fruit platter? You can make it really attractive, different colours and textures.

Maybe if you're feeling a little playful you could feed each other, it's always good for a laugh
  • thanks for all the brilliant replies - you have all given me loads of ideas.

Oooh, thanks. We always have smoked salmon and cream cheese bagels with bucks fizz for Christmas breakfast but i am going to have to make those muffins for the little one, if only to make the house smell delicious if nothing else!!!:D

I am getting more excited by the minute :j
