Planning - no notice given by neighbour

Quick bit of advice needed.
Neighbour has put planning application in. We only know of it because of those letters you get from party wall surveyors.
Having checked their application to the council they've stated that they've provided us with the notice. I presume their architect was supposed to send it? Nor is anything publically displayed (lamp post etc).
We're not against them building but this isn't the first time. Last time they put in for planning they also failed to give us notice.
Any advice? Other than speaking to the neighbours.

They are not required to give you notice.
The council are the ones who normally put a notice on the lampost or a letter through the door. However they do not have to do this so may not.
The only time the neighbour needs to serve you notice is if any works fall under the party wall act. This does not need to be done until 1-2 months before the build starts so this normally comes after planning approval.0 -
Slightly different, but our neighbour did speak to us to give us advance warning of a planning application they were putting in. They didn't want us just to get a letter from the planning department about it. We never did get a letter advising us of the application and asking if there was any objection.0

There was a planning application near me affecting three houses adjoining - only one house got the notice through the post.
I think its hit and miss.
Is it now showing as approved on your council planning portal?0 -

I also understood that they had to give notice before actual works began rather than planning. Just that the application itself states a section which says 'I certify that I have given the requisite notice to everyone else (as listed below)' and only my address is there. Then gives a date they claimed they served the notice.0

Ah, So from this it would seem that you both share a freehold or interest in the land?
If you are completely separate and you have no interest in their land then they have just filled in the wrong section on the application form.
I am assuming this is shown under 'Certificate of Ownership' section.
If you do have interest in the land then yes they should have notified you. But this wouldn't void their application or anything if they havent.0 -

Where I am, people don't get letters any more. It's the responsibility of the party doing the work to display the planning notice in a 'prominent position' for a specified time, not that the planning dept will check they have.
I've done it 3 times now.0
