Car Hire Excess Insurance

Hi, I took out car hire excess insurance and then, whilst on holiday in Croatia, needed to pay for some damage that was caused. Aside from the fact that I think it was a scam (the scratch was tiny, hidden underneath the bonnet and yet the inspector found it immediately!)...my question is....if I make a claim on my excess insurance, will I need to declare this claim when my car insurance (for my "normal" car that I own at home) comes up for renewal? And will I need to declare it if I take out future car hire excess insurance? It might be, if the answer to either/both is "yes" then it might not be worth the bother me making the claim.
thanks. Rich.

As it's a non-UK claim I don't believe it should be declared in your insurance renewal, and it will not be in the records of UK motor insurance providers.Evolution, not revolution0

Thanks, on what basis would it be a "non-UK claim"? The policy was purchased from a UK-based company before I travelled and, although the incident took place abroad, the claim to recover the money that I paid direct to the car hire company whilst in Croatia will have to be made from the UK and to a UK-based insurer?
Or is your answer based on the fact that the excess policy insurers are completely separate (in terms of systems, processes and records) to UK motor insurance providers?
Thanks
