    The Ford Sharan / VW Galaxy ( ;) ) needed special oil? Not using that special oil would damage the engine? Or was that just Internet talk and the reality is that it didn't matter, as long as the oil met the standard specification?

    That was the attitude that owners kept coming up against. Getting people to put the right oil in was a nightmare. Yes it needs special PD oil for PD engines.
