The judge tried to call them twice with no luck. I had a telephone call and an email from the court requesting a direct line for the hearing; I guess they couldn't be bothered to answer.2

The judge tried to call them twice with no luck.I suspect when he got through he was asked to input his PCN and VRM details in order to progress to the 'Pay My Charge' stage. If so, I bet he'd be well peed off.Well done. First telephone win (I think) we've seen since the COVID-19 crisis erupted. Please note, we are not a legal advice forum. I personally don't get involved in critiquing court case Defences/Witness Statements, so unable to help on that front. Please don't ask. .
I provide only my personal opinion, it is not a legal opinion, it is simply a personal one. I am not a lawyer.

Out of interest, which judge was this? I have a claim in my own thread, hearing at Portsmouth was due to go ahead this coming Monday, but had a call from the courts and an email stating it's been vacated. No mention of telephone hearing.2

As CEL never appear in person at court; I'd doubt that they would want to be cross examined by a judge/defendant by phone.MrMercury said:The judge tried to call them twice with no luck. They must have sent the solicitor, I mean underpaid intern, out to the local coffee shop to buy everyone's drinks for them....Castle said:
They couldn't even "turn up" for a phone call!MrMercury said:Court hearing was today via telephone call. Decision was to strike out the claim. CEL didnt turn up but the judge in Portsmouth courts decided to go ahead in their absence. He noted that I proved I was a patron of the restaurant; he said hes not interested in any signage argument; he noted I am also claiming an abuse of process and that I reference a recent case nearby in Southampton and agrees and therefore is striking out the claim on that basis. Took less than 10 minutes.
Thank you to everyone for your help.1
