This is not meant harshly, but why in the name of all that is good on this earth would the vertical design of a card make it easier to use???

Do you have difficulty putting a horizontally oriented card in an ATM?

I find them annoying as I have to tilt my head now to read the writing and the card number.

If only there was an easier way... ;)

No issues in that department. Thanks.

I was iust asking, because I've not used a vertical card at all, and it was in the news recently with starling:

The above link says vertical design was chosen as it's more convenient!. Probably a marketing gimmick.

Supposedly more secure in the real world because the customer name, card number etc is on the back as opposed to the front. But then couldn't you just have these on the back even with the horizontal design?

With the vertical design, those details are written horizontally on the back, so to read the details you have to turn it horizontal anyway....Honestly, you couldn't make it up.
  • Wait wait.. so now you have to turn the card over?

That's it, i'm out... too much hard work...

Well, not necessarily (hard work). Doesn't matter if its horizontal or vertical, having card number, start/expiry date, and csv all on one side will make entering them for online shopping, reading it out on phone, or even entering it as a once in a lifetime event on to paypal - simpler. Because otherwise it's one more turn for reading csv number isn't it?

You could store it in your wallet backside facing front, so you whip it out of wallet (or purse) then you are all set to enter all the numbers, without ever turning it once.

I thought the CSV was on the back so that ALL the details couldn't be copied/photographed in one action, but if all the details are on the back, it's all there for the spy camera UNDER the card machine.

Really, It's just the contacts and logo on the back, and everything else on the front.

Wondering if I should order a monese debit card. Going through the prompts on the app to order card, I can see it asks to confirm address.

I stopped at this point because there isn't any mention of the £4.95 issue fee.

Does anyone know if they mention the fee after confirming the address or is the card ordered as soon as I confirm address? (it'll be a bit sneaky for them to not mention the fee - me thinks - even if it's mentioned on the FAQ)

Last but not least, is the card worth it?

I don't particularly need it for spending and cash withdrawals abroad, as I have both Halifax Clarity and Santander zero. I have the monzo card for a debit card. Maybe have Monese as a backup debit card for travel spending?

    Is it worth it ?

Imo not really when you can get a Starling account and card for free.

I have a Monese but not used it.
