It was heartening to hear your problem eventually got sorted out, EH75!
The rest of us live in hope.
This thread was a blast from the past when I just got an email notification about your post!

If anyone else is interested, both gas and electric smart meters and the IHD have worked flawlessly ever since the original issue was fixed a couple of years back after I raised a complaint with EDF. I switched suppliers to British Gas some time ago and everything still works as it should. The unit prices even up dated on the IHD when I fixed my tariff a couple of months back so that gives me a nice little reminder of how expensive things have become whenever I look at it!
  • May be an old post, but the problem persists. Like many others I was press-ganged to EDF when my last supplier went bang. Having had smart meters installed three months back, despite numerous frustrating phone calls and emails to EDF, nothing has changed. That is, the gas meter is not showing on IHD and no gas readings showing on my account (electric has worked fine from day one, with useful usage details in their energy hub). In desperation, I emailed the EDF CEO (SRossi@edfenergy.com) a couple of weeks ago to express my exasperation and dissatisfaction at their appalling customer service and low and behold I have an engineer visiting tomorrow!! Having done some reading, it seems to me that the gas meter simply isn't connecting to the HAN (mine are both indoors and about 2.5m apart).
I live in hope at a solution and will provide an update following their intervention.

At least it's doing exactly the same as your old gas meter did and recording how much you use, so really don't get too stressed about it. You just need to give monthly manual readings.

Hopefully they can get it working but if not, you're no worse off than you were with the old gas meter.

  • I had smart meters installed a few months ago. Exactly the same issue with the gas smart meter - it appears too far away from the electricity meter to work. An engineer came out last week to replace the gas meter with a new one. After checking my property, he explained to me that he didn't expect the replacement to work either ! I am told by the engineer that there is a newer type of gas smart meter available which has a stronger wifi signal to avoid the connection issues, but that EDF currently do not use them and this is going to be resolved in the 'coming months'. Why do EDF commission new gas smart meter installations when they have the ability to correctly survey a property before installation? And why does an engineer proceed to install them when it will be obvious that the gas meter will not work properly as it is too far away from the electricity meter to connect? This is both inefficent and a complete waste! I have an open complaint with EDF and will not allow it to be closed until this is properly resolved. In the meantime, I'll submit monthly readings.

Because the Govt targets are based on installs, whether successful or not , NOT working meters
