Own forum

I have been thinking about this for a while - and please don't shoot me!

Why don't the regulars on here start their own forum a la PePiPoo?

I am a mod on a forum on a different subject. A couple of us are thinking about buying out the site owner. We would have an initial outlay as we would want to retain the original format but the ongoing costs are pretty trivial to be honest. To be fair we have someone to do the admin - even if we didn't the expense wouldn't be massive

For here there would be advantages. . No messing around with trying to alter the stickies - having complete responsibility for what's going on etc etc. You could even have a sub forum especially for The Deep and his cut and pastes! :j:j:j

Be interested in others thoughts. I'd definitely join.

This was suggested many many years ago by a user called vax2002 and it never got of ground. It would take a long time to show up in google, lot of work to keep up
    Non starter

But worth it in the long run, surely, for the autonomy.

And not a lot of work to keep up to date. Having investigated it for the forum I mod on it's perfectly doable without a huge amount of effort.

As an owner of a successful forum i've often thought the same.

MSE was around a long time before it became famous.

You will never match the sheer size. What is the point of another parking forum, MSE and Pepipoo are enough, it would be like having 3 KFC's in the same street ?

It will take a lot of work, money, time to even get it to work.
Think about it, the people on MSE often say they did not know the forum was around and that's after years, Martin on TV etc etc

    But good luck

It wouldn't take a lot of work or money

The regulars remain here and point newbies to the new forum in the same way they send them to PePiPoo. Then there would be two forums - the new one and PePiPoo.

Much more freedom and autonomy. I thought you guys would like that

Why would we point people to a new forum ? All the answers they want can be found here

The only reason people are pointed to pepipoo is for council stuff and offences, not private parking

MSE would not be too pleased about sending people to a similar forum

Look at CAG forum. Parking advice on there is dodgy. Lot smaller to.
It really is a non starter sorry.

Happens on other forums here. MSE don't seem that bothered. To be honest the "moderation" on MSE is so light I doubt anyone would notice.

    Very little

Other than it covers a lot of different subjects. Apart from MSE I tend to frequent more specialist forums which was what I was suggesting here. What's the comparison to a stand alone one subject forum (honest question)?

I, genuinely, felt that the regulars here might like their own forum where they would be more in charge. It was only a thought.
