Builder forgot to insulate loft

Hi I was just after some advice my builders (term used loosely) forgot to insulate the loft space! And when I challenged them about it the admitted it, so they then cut a whole in the newly plastered roof and insulated it correctly! My question now is they want to charge me for a bespoke loft hatch as they can’t buy one off the shelf that will fit, shouldn’t they be footing the bill for this?
Thanks
Thanks

Did they cut a whole hole or only whalf a whole?0 -
I certainly wouldn't expect to pay for covering them for putting right their mistake.0

This! Also OP how did you know it wasn't insulated?0 -
We have an ensuite fitted that leaked during the fitting, the fitters had to cut a hole into the ceiling beneath it to get to a part of it and fix it, they fitted an access hatch at my request instead of plastering over the hole they made. They didn't have to nerve to charge for fixing their mistake and that access hatch looks pretty good in the hall. That is my experience of something similar.0

I would not be paying them to do the remedial work.
I would be more concerned however about what else they have forgotten to install if they missed something as fundamental as loft insulation!0 -
They had to cut a hole 430 x 600 in order to gain access to put the insulation down!0

Do you want a hatch there? If not they could reinstate the plasterboard.
Why didn't they make the hole a suitable size for a commonly available hatch?0 -
The joists are only 430 apart so no off the shelf option, I didn’t want a hatch it was their suggestion!0

When the sparky cutout the down lights!0

If you really don't want a hatch, just tell them no thanks, they can just put the plasterboard back.
I would try to work something out with them though. Won't you ever want to check in the loft space?0
