Video repair company visited. Just looked at the condition of the machine took some pics. I said what it was doing and he said yeah there’s been a lot of storms in the area. He said he would send the details to the insurer and see if they want to repair or replace.
Now bearing in mind they don’t normally repair tumble dryers, and the fact no one has actually tested all the other electronics that are in the machine e.g. large capacitors and mains filters not to mention a compressor, I think I will be contacting the insurance ombudsman if they want a video repair company doing it.0 -
Hmm seems after phoning bevalued the video repair company thinks it’s repairable. That’s without testing any other components, and this machine has a lot due to being a heat pump type.
They are still waiting for the manager at the video repair place to sign off the report. Then I’m guessing bevalued will decide if it’s repairable based on the cost of a repair.
I will see what policy expert have to say and if I don’t get anywhere will go to the insurance ombudsman.0 -
Whilst you're perfectly entitled to go to the ombudsman, don't expect much - they are entitled to repair as the first option, as per the policy wording. If the repair fails, you'll have a better argument. If you aren't happy with the company doing it, you could ask if they'll give you the cash that the repair would cost, less your excess, and use this to put towards a new dryer.0

Update the saga continues.
Well the insurance agreed to replace and started off offering a machine that was half the price of my original one. Not surprised. Anyway I pointed out it didn’t have a self cleaning condenser and suggested the iq300 they agreed and AO delivered. And it was faulty, I phoned Siemens who sent an engineer who confirmed it. So Phoned AO who said they wouldn’t change till checked with Siemens, strange thought within 30 days was exchange or refund. Anyway AO delivered another one this Saturday, this one had been opened. Turned on same fault but worse. So phoned AO, we’ve go to send an engineer to confirm. Ok so today I’m waiting for a call 30 mins before he arrives, no call leaves a card.
I start going mental at AO who are still insisting on an engineer visit. Anyway In the mean time I was wondering why the new dryer seemed like a cheap knock off compared to my old one. Turns out my old one is an iq700. Which according to siemens is a premium heat pump dryer. So now I think I will attempt to get this one, as they still make an iq700, rather than play change the budget dryer with AO. Strangely when I phone AO sometimes they answer bevalued or AO eBay.0
