Ebay is dead

My ebay sales are building year on year. It is not my full time profession, more a part time enterprise but the way its going I should be able to make it part of my full time job within the next year or 2.

I sell regular items, things I can buy in bulk and sell at a decent profit. The market changes though, people come into your space and try to undercut you, some succeed and some fail if their offering is not as good as you. Often its a game of cat and mouse with other sellers.

It is good fun and there is money to be made but you have to constantly evolve how you do things, if you stay the same you get overtaken.

At least someone agrees with your opening post, even if it is you. As you have been posting the same thing now for years don't you think it's time for you to give up on eBay and find a different venue? Books died for me several years back, and I was out of that market within 4 months of noting the huge downturn, I certainly wouldn't keep trying for a decade .

I can assure you that when eBay finally does for me, I will be out of there and o to something new within a a few months.

Find a new venue, or a different way to make a bit of money on the side.

Trading in collectables has changed. As people literally die off. Collections come back to the market , often via auction houses. Where it's possible to buy job lots at reasonable prices.

I stopped selling via Ebay some years ago. Fees simply became unbearable. Instead attending specialist shows in person. Met the same people that I was selling to online. Easier way of doing business. Though there was a noticable decline in footfall over the years. Likewise number of traders diminshed. Age catches up with us all.

If you feel like this, then give up. Donate all your items or sell off cheap as a joblot; Cut your losses and move on with your life.

I'm in a similar position. I used to sell bits and bobs on ebay, and it was worth the effort for a small profit. Now I can't shift stuff. I try to sell nice clothes that I'm no longer keen on, but there's little interest, and the margins are terrible compared to the time it takes to list stuff. All just going to go to charity now. I'd do a boot fair but I'm a bit shy, don't fancy it.

I think ebay's good, but it's a buyer's market.
