Ebay is dead

Well I have to say after putting many varied and vintage collectable items (star wars/dr who/comics/books/dvd/etc etc) that Ebay is dead. 20 years ago I could make a small fortune on anything of this nature I listed. 20 years on, the items are even more vintage and its crap. hardly any views, and the ones with watches never become a single sale.

So RIP Ebay

Any other good site to sell that are better than Ebay and do not rob you as much with their fees ?

If they are worth so much, why not try a traditional auction? There are ones that specialise in these goods and ones that have special sales.
Although to be honest if you are not getting much interest in Ebay then I doubt you'd do better anywhere else. A traditional auction would also be also to give you an honest appraisal based on current market conditions. Just watch their fees as if you don't like Ebay's then they will make your eyes water.

Not so much ebay is dead but collectables are dead.

But that was at least ten years ago.

99.9% of youngsters (say born 1990+) do not care about phyisical things. So the market get saturated and people do not want to pay as much. Only real collectable market is retro gaming, but I expect that to fall in the next ten years too for much the same reasons.

Your items may well have been devalued by the vast glut of new Star Wars and Dr Who type items that have hit the market more recently. Also of course DVDs are less valuable now almost any video content can be found online either legally or other.

Your best might be to set your BIN price and sit in wait for the right buyer to come along.

There are other selling platforms such as local pages on face book, gumtree, auctions etc.

    Try some of those.

Also set your item on ebay to 'make an offer' and see what happens.

  • Local facebook groups, facebook marketplace, gumtree, vinted (?), depop (?), shpock, etsy, ebid, an actual local auctionhouse, or perhaps your best bet - the selling pages in the back of a collectors or scifi magazine. I used to read SFX on the regular and the back was always full of people advertising vintage collectables, or companies offering to buy them. Definitely worth a look.

As for eBay, I've no idea of the state of the collectors market on there, but you can always see for yourself. Do a search for the product you want to sell and click "sold" to see what people actually get for them. If there's not a lot of sales, there's your answer - the buyers have moved on to somewhere else, or the products just aren't that popular any more. If there are a lot of sales, have a look at the sold listings and see if you can figure out what they're doing that you're not.
Well informed on the subjects of sofas and wood furniture, and well opinionated on everything else :rotfl:

I have no idea what you are talking about. It makes no sense when I ask a reasonable question and make a statement based on my experience. So stop "trolling" me.

I still buy things on ebay, but I rarely sell there nowadays.

I buy and sell via specialist FB groups.

You did make a sweeping statement from your own experience. I think Ebay is largely a waste of my time, but that's for my products and how they sell. I wouldn't assume from my lack of sales that "Ebay is dead" as a whole, it obviously isn't.

As has been said elsewhere the collectable market isn't always a sure thing. Ebay and ready access to online auctions around the world has made products easier to get hold of. I have much easier access to products around the world than I did 20 years ago. Rare items are not as rare as they once were.
