I have had a couple of broken springs. One on a 2 year old car and one a 4 year old. Can go anytime. Not really associated with old car in my experience.

So what have you been arguing about?

Now by your own admission its perfectly reasonable for a spring to break on a 9 year old car, even one maintained to your high standards?

A 9 year old car that has been serviced at a garage may be pretty wrecked. Over and underfilled with oil. Damaged by failure to use a torque wrench. Bits thrown in the bin that they couldn't be bothered to replace. Maybe a garage serviced car is wrecked at 9 years old. A car looked after by a DIY enthusiast will be like new.

By using a £15 torque wrench that is 25 years old and had a fake calibration certificate when new.

Its an old car. No car of this age will be perfect.

I don't really see my 9 year old cars as old. Middle aged at most. In the prime of their life. Just need regular services, tyres, brakes, exhausts, wipers & batteries.

And potentially other wear and tear items such as
    • springs
    • shocks
    • suspension joints
    • bushings
    • belts
    • hoses
    • plugs
    • filters
    • brake fluid
    • power steering fluid
    • engine mounts
    • seals
    • clutches
    • bulbs

But other than all that and your list, in the prime of its life.
