My main car is 15 years old. The last time it failed an MOT was when it was 4 years old. Has had 2 advisories since. A 9 year old car should be in perfect condition. Any faults can be rectified. My 9 year old cars drive like new.

It's probably running a load of fault codes which you haven't seen.

Checking fault codes is very easy. It's not rocket science

You won't have spent money on a decent scan tool.

A 9 year old wont be in perfect condition.

Again, you are creating an expectation at odds with reality.

And there is a difference between wear and tear and a fault. The spring breaking was wear and tear, not a fault.

A 9 year old car that has been serviced at a garage may be pretty wrecked. Over and underfilled with oil. Damaged by failure to use a torque wrench. Bits thrown in the bin that they couldn't be bothered to replace. Maybe a garage serviced car is wrecked at 9 years old. A car looked after by a DIY enthusiast will be like new.

I have had a couple of broken springs. One on a 2 year old car and one a 4 year old. Can go anytime. Not really associated with old car in my experience.
