Reversed into on a carpark, go through insurance or not?

Hi, thanks in advance for any advice.
I was reversing out of a space on a carpark,.into the "road area". i had reversed out and was stationary about to move off forwards when a car in a space opposite my original space was reversing, they reversed straight into the side of my car. ( Huge dent in drivers side door of my car, barely any mark whatsoever on his bumper)
There was a witness but unfortunately he happened to be the drivers mate (gym carpark). He did say i came out first and was stationary. But I doubt I could rely on him as a witness.
I know im not at fault as im stationary, but the other driver just disputed it straight away, tried to make out we were both reversing and crashed into one another, which is not the case. Tried to get cctv footage but there are no cameras. He just said he couldn't see me lol.
The driver has offered to pay half the damages if I get it priced up privately.
Is it at all possible to win this through my insurance or am I better just biting the bullet and accepting half privately?

This is 1 of the reasons I prefer reversing into a space so I can drive out, I can easily stop if I need to.0

Thanks for that input lol.
I had already reversed out into the road and was stationary when he decided to reverse out.
Hence he has reversed into the side door of my car and not the rear end.0 -
So no doubt who drove into who!
Were you the one reversing that damage was impossible to do!0 -
I wouldn't accept anything privately, nothing stopping them taking your money and going to insurer anyways
declare to your insurers asap and it may come out to 50/50
Consider dash cam for front and back as well, they are cheap"It is prudent when shopping for something important, not to limit yourself to Pound land/Estate Agents"

I'm the person who was hit and being offered half the costs privately. Not the other way around.0

Still stands, they can take your money and still claim on insurance. Best to do it all above board, you have to declare accidents anyways as per your T+C"It is prudent when shopping for something important, not to limit yourself to Pound land/Estate Agents"

fair enough, but at fault party may still go to insurer that will always be a risk op's choice
if i was offered money I wouldn't accept, they could claim later on whip lash and you caused the accident and if you didn't declare to insurer you could potentially not be covered, esp if 50/50 fault"It is prudent when shopping for something important, not to limit yourself to Pound land/Estate Agents"
